that night getting to my destination was a bit of a mission. indeed, i was closely followed by a freaking fanatical truck driver. i kept to the speed limit, which is 80km per hour for most of the drive from atawhai to the entry of nelson. so i kept to my 80km per hour whilst the truck driver was closely tailing me, flashing his light in an attempt to get me to go faster but i didn't. now, let's get back to my review after this unusual side note- i went to the vic's with my usual group of friends, a tight bunch of eclectic, worldly and exciting individuals. i was even introduced to a few interesting and vibrant new ones, a man from germany and a talented latin dance teacher named nadia. i had a soda, lime and bitter, which was very reasonably priced. then, i proceeded inside, along with my group to enjoy the band playing that night, the boogie train. an interesting anecdote, the banner behind the band is of a steam locomotive, which is a perfect analogy to the name of the band. the music was good but a bit loud for me, considering the deaf defying yet excellent performance by the hot potato at the boathouse the night before. fortunately, this time, i came prepared and i had earplugs capable of reducing the noise level to a mere 26 decibels. it was a neat and enjoyable evening at the vic's. my only recommendation to the management is to have the music, either live or recorded, played at different volumes throughout the night- in order to create more of a varied atmosphere throughout evenings.
