the trellis restaurant

great breakfast. had the duck hash and it was outstanding. good prices and great coffee. all other comments about service being slow need to just slow down themselves and enjoy life for why it is. if you have peace of mind and can appreciate good food for what it is, you will have a great meal. my wife and i will be returning.

not a great experience. the service was slow and people who arrived after us were done eating by the time we finished our appetizers. the entrees were average nothing stood out. my chicken was very dry. my mothers shrimp and grits was bad. shrimp was not shelled and deveined properly. the only good thing about trellis was the desserts! the passion fruit cheesecake is delicious. they did offer us free dessert after our terrible service. will not be going back again.

i just had the best cheeseburger i've had in a very long time!! it was juicy, flavorful, and a great size! the bun was nice and toasted which added great contrast to the meat. they have two thin patties, or they cut on in half, and add cheese between the layers. besides the incredible food (they have fries to die for) the service was quick and friendly and the decor was beautiful! plus, it is a comfortable temperature, not freezing.

terrible. the trellis is not just one of the worst restaurants in williamsburg, but it's one of the worst in hampton roads. the menu is boring and uninspired. drab. dull. bland.

do yourself a favor and walk across the street and eat at the fat canary. every entree is a masterpiece of texture and flavor.

it was good. not "wow!", but good. given its location, prices are in keeping with competition and what we expected to pay. we went for lunch.

after reading some reviews my wife and i were feeling cautious. it was really good!! salads were solid. need no seasoning. she had mushroom pasta that was really nice. once again seasoed perfectly. i ate some despite being full. i had duck. was a bit scared of breadpudding description but when came thought perfect. temp was perfect too as was service (quick but not rushed by server). think of wifes review " yes bread presentation on slate was tourist like but loved the bread. " we both give it an "a".

for some reason the trellis only got 68% on urban spoon. i have to disagree, i found it to be a lovely setting with great food and service. we would go again.

good for a couple date. not a family venue.. somewhat pricey for a special evening out. desserts were the most enjoyable part of the meal. service was so-so. for the price, we would have expected better. not was we're used to in our metropolitan area for the pricing. location to the main part of williamsburg made for a nice walk after dessert.

one of the best in williamsburg. a lovely restaurant, superb food, heads above most of the other local restaurants. this is one of our top two favorites in town. the rest are just "local" - this food is special.

how the mighty have fallen.... we used to be regulars at the trellis but it has been some time since we have been there. today we went for brunch and will never go back. we sat at the bar for almost 10 minutes and were never asked if we wanted a drink before finally being called by the hostess to sit down. our waitress was nice but a bit slow getting our drinks. our meal took over 40 minutes to arrive and then only after i brought it to the waitresses attention. she tried to argue that it hasn't been that long but after looking at the time that the order was submitted she did agree that it was taking too long. my husband loved his softshell crab blt but the breakfast plate was a big mistake. my over medium eggs were over hard. the waitress told the chef that they were over cooked before she brought the plate out but he said they were not and to take the plate out. when i said they were over cooked and she went back to get a replacement. again the chef argued so she had to remove the eggs from my plate and take them to him to prove it. i did finally get eggs cooked correctly. the potatoes and the biscuit were notably undercooked.

the manager sent the waitress over to apologize for the mistakes with the offer of a free dessert so we selected "death by chocolate" to go. when i tasted the dessert this afternoon, it was not up to the trellis standard.

all in all, a very disappointing $50.00 lunch. think twice before eating at the trellis.

used to be great! the trellis was our favorite restaurant for special dinners. las rime we went in jan 2008 was our last visit ever. we were celebrating my husbands birthday and our first pregnancy. it was a big day for us. the service was awful, the food was worse. my chicken was way over cooked and i had to send it back. no manager came to the table, no one cared. so on our way out i found the manager sitting at a table having a coctail. i told her what happened and she said sorry and blew me off. so i wrote a letter to them telling them what happened. i got no reply. if they don't care about their customers, i don't care to spend my money there. maybe they count on one time visits by tourists and not returning customers. go to the fat canary, we do.

yes. it is a tourist trap. all of williamsburg is a tourist trap. i have been coming for years because they do serve a wonderful lunch...best burger i've ever had.

great desserts. i have mixed feelings about this restaurant. while i've never had a bad meal (lunches), they have always left me underwhelmed. the desserts, however, are deadly! so, if you want to have a very average salad, but a sinfully delightful dessert, i would suggest foregoing the salad, and just head straight to the desserts.

the staff, have always been gracious, even with the dozens of tourists nipping at their heels during the summer.
