the spunky monkey bar & grill

my friends and i wanted to celebrate the end of a work period. we had money to spend. a waitress asked for are drinks. 5 drinks : 3 beers, one gin and tonic , and one (knob creek) no knob creek so makers mark, neat coke back no ice. 25 minutes late three beers show up. then ten minutes later a gin and tonic shows up. 15 minutes later i walked up to the bar and my drink was sitting by cash register behind bar. no bartender no waitress after 2-3 minutes final the bartender shows up what do you want? my drink? here and slams the drink on the bar and goes back into the kitchen to fight with the waitress. for the love of god don't drink here.

very cold and uninviting. no one to greet had to walk around and find someone in kitchen. all the tables disarrayed. very uninviting. i wanted to leave at that point. server came down to take our order after the cook called her via intercom. we had steamed clams which where good but had sand in them. i also had screaming pasta idk but not my taste i only ate 2 bites. my husband had wings they where dry. room was very cold they had a space heater that didn't even take the chill off. server very nice i paid bill. will not go back.

post- restaurant impossible remake. quirky exterior of building-liked it. enjoyed the contemporary design on the inside. fun graphics of chimps. restaurant impossible crew did a decent job giving the place a makeover.

ordered a beef burger with jo jo's. and the wife had the screamin' pasta.
the burger was extremely dry, but well seasoned, but only came with one piece of lettuce and one slice of tomato - no cheese...but did have a lovely remoulade, however, bun the was just a dry piece of brioche - very ho-hum.

the jojo's were about 5 baked potato wedges with rosemary/sea salt and were delicious but too few, especially as the wife pinched 2 of them! the homemade ranch was freshly made and yummy.

the wife thought the 'screamin' pasta' was misleading as a title - as it implied it had kick with strong garlic and zesty lemon flavor which made her look forward to eating it, but although the pasta were fun shapes and a plentiful helping - she was disappointed by it being pretty bland and very oily.

she was also annoyed that when asked "would you like chicken with that?" to which she replied "yes" was charged an extra $4 for a few pieces of chicken breast! it was served with a very small piece of french bread, which could have been larger and toasted.

the waitress was friendly enough but put words into our mouths when she passed by and said, "is it amazing?"
we just politely smiled.

overall nice...but a juicier burger with cheese and more to it than what was given and more jojo's would have made the evening way better.

there are pool tables and coin operated dart boards.

took 2 friends to the spunky monkey restaurant in auburn, wa, wow was that a big mistake. if there were a negative number i would post it. the restaurant was featured as a “restaurant makeover on restaurant impossible”, so i thought it was going to be inviting “not”.
we walked in and there was no one to greet you, headed to the dining area, where a man in dirty clothes said “it’s closed, go up to the bar” this was at 6:20pm). we went up stairs to the bar, waited to be seated, took a few minutes, (only 5 people in the bar 4 staff members); we were seated in a booth which had a broken table.
after we ordered, it took the kitchen staff 45 minutes to deliver our meal; i have to give the wait staff credit, a couple of staff members, kept apologizing about the wait.
i ordered, beef & blue burger (salsa was slimy – scrapped it off) burger was cook per order, but the 5 wedges on the plate 2 cooked 3 raw (gross).
my friends order the fish sandwich, fish was dry, roll seemed to be day old, the other ordered steak, and it was as tough as shoe leather, veggies over cooked.
this restaurant is not inviting, very poor quality of food preparation and extremely long period of time between order and delivery.
i paid the bill, because i was so embarrassed about the place i chose for guest.
i would not recommend this place ever!

me and friends used to come here before the remodel and we have had some very bad experiences with the food however since the remodel the quality has improved greatly and we really enjoyed the burgers last time we were here! great improvements!!!! and delicious new fries!!!!

avoid this place.. there's nothing spunky, or even remotely charming about this restaurant since the remodel. you're better off hitting the burger king around the corner before you drive somewhere fun.
