tasty, creative cocktails... mouth watering entrees... great patio... got exceptional service from staff on 2 successive nights... destination if you're anywhere near hyde park!

this is the best meal i've had in my life. hands down. i apologise for hyperbole but i get tearful every time i think about it. they roast all of their meat in their in-house hearth - small plates that you wish would never end as well as big plates that you finish even though you're packed to capacity because every bite is delicious. i thought the s'more dessert with made with "heirloom" chocolate sounded ridiculous but since it was probably one of the best desserts i've ever had, i shut up and just enjoyed what heirloom chocolates had to offer. i'm moving into this neighbourhood in a week so i'll be going broke here weekly for sure!

awesome surprise. arrived in chicago last night to visit our daughter for the weekend. she suggested we all just walk to a local restaurant in her neighborhood for dinner. we walked up to the promontory encouraged when we saw the place was packed, usually a good sign that the food would be good.

upon learning there was a 45 minute wait we decided to take a row of seats at the chef's table. what a great decision that was. we got to observe matthew and his team plate and serve amazing entries. in his spare time he was more than gracious to share recommendations on the menu.

the four of us shared the following items, everything we tried was amazing!

chick pea fries (none of us had ever had before, all loved)
artichoke fritters
scallops (my favorite appetizer)
beef tartar on texas toast

half chicken
pork shank
kentucky burgoo
pork roast

s'more soufflé (my favorite, apparently my daughter's as well, once all had a bite, she finished the rest:), was not sharing)
baked alaska
banana's fosters with truffles (my son-in-law shared a bite with all, his favorite:) he finished this one:)

justin the manager, and his staff took amazing care of us, the service was excellent.

i have never felt the need to write a review and share a restaurant experience before. this one was so amazing i felt compelled to share what an awesome find it was. i look forward to our next visit and return to the promontory!

noting up front that many would consider a late night meal after the tasting menu at brindille gluttonous, if not foolhardy, it was none the less with a group of five and a last minute change of plans that i entered the promontory, a hopping new south loop spot sporting a 45 minute wait during which my friends and family chatted at the bar while perusing a menu on which everything sounded delicious while prices seemed too good to be “too good.” surprisingly filled to capacity both inside and out by a mixed crowd widely ranging in race, sex, age, and style as smiles decorated nearly every face at the dimly lit tables beneath a soundtrack of jazz and blues it was eventually at three compacted two-tops that our group was sat and with menu already well studied an order was soon placed, our server at first a bit condescending regarding the requested coursing of plates but quick to correct his tone when the twelve-item order was made known. truly a unique menu with plates divided into sectio
