came here for dinner based on positive reviews, but were underwhelmed by the food. found the dishes plentiful, but a bit bland and under-seasoned compared to tex-mex we'd eaten here and in the us. we tried the chicken burrito and cactus taco. wasn't a fan of the irish coffee (coffee + whisky + cream), but i'm sure some people would love it. service was friendly, efficient, and attentive. ambience is relaxed and the heating excellent. probably wouldn't return, but glad we gave it a go.

tastiest mexican food i've eaten to date. just loved the starters - beef nachos with melt in the mouth pulled beef, melted cheese, salsa and sour cream on a bed of crispy corn chips was sensational... and a generous serving to boot! was almost enough for a main... wedges were on the money, as was the lovely cactus bread with melted cheese and other light toppings. the fajitas (main) were fantastic (as pictured). i went with the chili con cactus (which has a disclaimer that it's for "the brave"). well, i bottomed out - it was soooo spicy i thought my mouth was on fire and i could feel the chili all the way down to my stomach haha. couldn't fiinish the meal... a first for me! lovely nonetheless, but will run with the standard con carne next time around. lovely staff, clean and nice restaurant. will come back again when in launceston.

food:
great if you like mexican with absolutely no heat or spices to it. elected for the mild thinking i wouldn't need to ramp it up... it needed ramping up... for any flavour of mexican.

rice side dish offered next to no flavour and had the consistency of microwave rice.
cactus wrap was not worth the $ 22 was more like something you would get from a food court mexican. (salsa's would be an improvement)

dessert:
went for the churros and were served 3 with canned whipped cream and store bought chocolate and caramel sauce. not worth $10 by a long shot.

lots of little kids and screaming babies. definitely a family friendly place. but not great to be seated near despite the later than little kid dining time.

maybe my girlfriend and i (from melbourne) are used to good mexican, but this was just average to sub average and overpriced for what we got.

the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. the frozen margaritas were very delicious too. the food was mediocre but the drinks are cheap and service is great.

we were ravenous after hiking through the wilderness for 6 days, and the cold launceston weather basically blew us to the nearest restaurant and we stumbled into the prickly cactus. it's exactly what you would expect from an aus-tex-mex place and to be honest we were all totally cool with that! friendly staff and quick service, and pretty tasty food. hit the spot for a fast, filling and flavourful meal we were craving.

very average food and bland taste. it certainly lacks true mexican flavours. i wouldn't recommend this place. also the place is overpriced. :(

despite fairly decent reviews, we were quite disappointed with the prickly cactus. while the portions are definitely generous, unfortunately the flavours weren't there. my husbands ribs were nice, but my burrito was bland and seemed to be a combination of lots of bought ingredients rather than fresh prepared in-house. service was great, but food didn't impress. wouldn't recommend or return.

travelling for work to tassie regularly went for dinner with a friend this looked promising from the outside with quite a few tables full. first service impression was ok they fitted us in. but after that service went down hill it took a long time after seating with the menu to have our order taken, the wait staff were messy & untidy & seemed to be interested more in socialising & being silly behind the counter together. the food was average & all from jars not fresh. we left without having dessert or coffee like planned as it was like we were forgotten about. fresh food & more attentive neater wait staff who actually want to be there & take pride in their job wouldn't go astray. hopefully these improvements can happen

we enjoyed the seafood meals but the service was bad, we ended up leaving without ordering dessert because we thought they might never come back to take our order

service good. food ordinary. for example the guacamole was mainly cream. no flavor. chimichanga ok but have had much tastier. servings small. overpriced.
