a reasonable place with reasonable prices and great food. the place had a patio on it which gives it that cozy vibe which i like and enjoy a lot. might return to this depending on the mood.

high priced mediocrity. my wife and i ate at the palm on friday, may 11. our tab (and we do not drink alcohol) was $156. in return we got a meal and service that i would expect in a restaurant where the tab was $30. the service was friendly but not particularly attentive. there was an enormous wait for food (20 minutes for a piece of chocolate cake), extreme delays between courses. this suggests that the staffing level in the kitchen is like that of a moderate restaurant, not at the level of a high end place. too cheap to staff. the appetizer, bacon-wrapped scallops, was nicely done. my wife’s salmon was nice, though the piece was huge to justify the price. my boneless rib eye steak was slightly over done, more like medium than medium rare and it was dry which suggests that the cook did not know what he was doing. vegetables and potatoes are a la carte and come in two sizes. the waitress did not ask what size we wanted, and brought large for both vegetables, leaving me feeling like the emphasis in the palms was dragging money out of my wallet. the chocolate cake for dessert (i still am amazed that it took 20 minutes to cut a piece of cake) was excellent, but tiny. oh yes, you either use their valet service for parking or you pay for it. four more bucks. we will not be going back. there are better restaurants that cost less and do way better.

one of places i visited with my colleague during my trip to tysons. i had the 14 oz steak (medium rare) and it turned out to be "the best" steak i have ever had in my life so far and i have had the privilege and good fortune to try steaks in various countries.

very good caramelisation and yummy pinky insides of the steak made it a visual and gastronomic delight.

so darn good!. i came here for lunch and we basically had a feast! i believe my friend had the medallions (really good for a restaurant that does not specialize in steaks) and i had the seared scallop. let me just say that it was one of the best meals i've had in my life! when have you had your scallop done so perfectly that it tastes like the sea and the texture is still firm but well cooked? i forget what we had for appetizers. the dessert was so good! we had carrot cake and a chocolate cake. i planned on taking mine home but i completely finished it.

if you're done shopping at tysons ii and you don't have too many shopping bags to carry, take a walk through the hilton and end up in this gem! my second choice would be maggiano's or nm cafe.
