i only have nice things to say about this restaurant. it is very well-kept, and beautifully decorated. the culinary expertise of the chef is evident in the execution and taste of the food. the wines are delicious, and their sheer number is extraordinary. the service is impeccable and perfect, and the unpretentious decor is very charming. i could easily brand this as the best restaurant in the city.

the 2 michelin starred ledbury is often considered as one of the best, if not the best, restaurant in london. its head chef/patron is brett graham, an australian who endeavours to keep the standards exceptionally high at this notting hill restaurant. his efforts have more than paid off, as the food here is the some of the best i’ve had.head to my blog to see pictures of the food!

we went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago for lunch, and ordered a 3 course meal. the meal included an amuse-bouche and the yummiest bacon i've ever had. they also served some cheese brioche rolls which were very well prepared and tasted delicious.
the service was impeccable and quick. the food was fantastic and we had a lovely dining experience.

i came to this place with a friend when i visited the city recently. we had heard a lot about this place, and i am glad that we were not disappointed. the service was impeccable and perfect. the food tasted amazing. we had a three-course meal, and the meal included an amuse bouche and cleansing liquid too. the dishes were immaculately prepared and presented, and the taste was exceptional. the knowledge of the sommelier, and his wine recommendations accented our meal.

chef brett graham and his team are devoted to using local, seasonal produce of the highest quality in their dishes and it shows.  they feature a vegetarian tasting menu to really show off the bounty of the harvest, and even their regular tasting menu remains centered around produce.  their menu is constantly evolving to reflect the day-to-day and week-by-week changes in local availability. two michelin stars. #10 on san pellegrino’s top 50 in the world list. brett graham, winner of countless national and international awards, at the helm. how could ledbury not be a great way to kick off our whirlwind tour of some of london and paris’ best restaurants? it was therefore with great excitement that we walked through the chic neighborhood of notting hill until we reached ledbury rd., where, you guessed it, ledbury has its home. the outside is simple ye

this time we settled with the ledbury which has been around for 9 years. earlier this week it was ranked number 10 in the most recent world’s 50 best restaurants list. the solid reputation the ledbury has built up the past decade plus the two michelin stars it holds attracts many bookings. going to this kind of place requires some careful planning or luck if you’re aiming at popular hours. in our case it was a combination of the two. i was one month ahead and only managed to get the last available dinner table for the following month. note that weekday lunch tables probably are probably easier targets for flexible travellers.

after a hot and exotic november spent in thailand, december was rather dreary for me...over indulgence on holiday meant a healthy december and avoiding christmas treats. mulled wine is especially hard to say no to! that said, i was particularly looking forward to the treat planned for my three year anniversary with the lovely mr silver.

the ledbury in notting hill has been on my restaurant bucket list for years but i'd always struggled to get a booking. this time i was prepared and secured a table two months before the big day! its not hard to see why the ledbury is difficult to get into, it is one of only 9 two michelin star restaurants in london and is also the holder of 3 aa rosettes.

so dressed in our finery, including my 5 and half inch jimmy choos which only make an outing on occasions when i'm unlikely to move from a sitting position, we arrived at the restaurant with eager anticipation.

the restaurant is classic in design with large feature windows, cream furnishing and dark wood. ambience is buzzy but formal and at *little* staid.

we started off the meal with a glass of the house champagne, which was disappointingly watery and lacking in flavour. but i still somehow managed to drink it...

with so many wonderful food choices we opted for the tasting menu and, as it was a celebration, mr silver order a bottle of louis roederer to wash it down with.

bread was delicious and as well as the table bread we were offered other choices, a particular favourite was the bacon and onion brioche bread!

our first course was a starter of artichoke and foie gras, i don't eat foie gras and i was given crapaudine beetroot with smoked eel and olives. as a big foodie i generally know what items on the menu are but i'd never heard of crapadine beetroot! it turned out to be a carrot shaped beetroot!

mr silver's foie

a rather unusual beetroot
the beetroot kind of looked like blood smeared on a plate and would not have been a dish i would have personally chosen but it was light and enjoyable. a sneaky taste of mr silver's foie (iknow, i know!) revealed that this was the better of the two.

here's what followed:

crisp quails egg with perigord truffle. a highlight for me!

cornish turbot with grilled leek. i had this as an alternative to the jowl of pork which i didn't really fancy but mr silver enjoyed!

sea bass with brassicas, chopped oysters and sake. another mystery item! brassicas are cruciferous vegetables apparently. i love sea bass and this was my favourite dish!

all the savoury dishes were delicious and beautifully presented but, as i always find, the problem with a tasting menu is that such a small portion you really can't savour the dish.

dessert! pear cooked in brown butter with walnut, beremeal and caramelised goat's milk. the dessert was a light and tasty way to end the meal but it may not have been my first choice from the menu.

i really enjoyed the ledbury and i was delighted to tick the restaurant off my bucket list! however, for me it doesn't compare to my two favourite restaurants in london, alain ducasse and gordon ramsay royal hospital road. i guess i'm just a hard princess to please!

i’ve been desperate to go to the ledbury for years, alongside it’s two michelin stars, it’s many ‘restaurant of the year awards’ and it’s lofty place as the 13th best restaurant in the world – it’s most people’s pick as the best in london.

i don't often venture far west, so when i do it's usually for something worthwhile. lunch at the ledbury was such an occasion, so on a rainy friday afternoon we set off on the walk from notting hill gate. after fighting through the tourists of portobello road, the pillar-doored, four-story houses, endless designer baby clothes shops and estate agents selling flats for £4m my mind was full of images of a restaurant stuffy and for the privileged, not unlike gordon ramsay’s in chelsea.

however, the atmosphere at lunchtime was nothing of the sort. formal yes, the service was as impeccable as you would expect for the two michelin stars that adorn the ledbury, but there was a warmth and laid back attitude to the place that was genuinely pleasing.

we opted for the three course set lunch menu at £37.50 (recently changed to a four course menu for £45) and the food did not disappoint.

to start i had ceviche of hand dived scallops with kabu turnips, seaweed oil and frozen horseradish. the dish came very cold with nicely balanced but subtle flavours. certainly interesting and not something you eat every day, but lacking the intensity of the milk curd with morels that made up the alternative menu option. for main i selected the baked chinese water deer with juniper and bone marrow. this provoked a deal of conversation around the table. what is chinese water deer? do we want to eat it? resembling bambi & dracula's lovechild, it's a small fanged creature from east asia. and in the hands of brett graham and team you definitely do want to eat it, especially with juniper and bone marrow. matched with a fantastic but modestly priced (for this end of town) montepulciano, we were very happy.

yorkshire rhubarb soufflé and sorbets filled our table for dessert. the soufflé was immaculately prepared and we've never tasted anything as good yet. delicious.

all in all the lunch improved as the courses went on. we felt that by opting for the set lunch menu we may have been missing out, but there’s no doubt that what we had was superbly arranged and we definitely got value for money (a not dissimilar experience to our time at the wonderful martin wishart’s in edinburgh).

overall i liked the food; but i found the flame grilled mackerel to be the only course that made me think this is different, incredible and delicious. to their credit, all dishes tasted between the spectrum of good-to-great and none were declared plain nor strange. you are guaranteed to eat well here and £105 is extremely reasonable.
