looking for a steak dinner on a saturday night. we left one place when they told us that the wait time was two hours. driving along main street, my wife and i discovered the galley, and was seated immediately. the greeter and our waitress were very friendly, and we enjoyed our steaks. one thing i thought was comical was that the men’s restroom was smaller than the booth my wife and i sat.

great little nautical themed bar for beers and cocktails. great mai tais.

food-wise i'd stick to the simple (steak and fried appetitzers).
the patio on the back is pretty fun if you want to get a bit
of fresh air.

love our local steakhouse. another wonderful night at the galley. i have been dining here for more than 30 years and keep coming back for the delicious steaks and galley dressing. the staff is terrific and the prices are reasonable. check it out, you won't be disappointed.

the galley is amazing!!. this gem of a restaurant is not only warm and inviting, but serves great food! i started off with a shrimp cocktail (one of the best i've ever had)...the cocktail sauce has a real kick and the shrimp are super fresh and big! make sure you dip the amazing sourdough bread in the extra sauce ;-). i then had the famous house salad. the dressing is a secret recipe and is delicious!! (i've gone back the galley several times just because i had a craving for the salad dressing)...i've tried the filet, seafood diablo pasta and chicken parm and really cannot decide which one is my favorite!! they are all so good! the galley girls are all adorable and really friendly. there are many "regular" customers at this la haunt and i can see why...the galley girls are so personable and treat you really well. the vibe is warm and fun, the drinks are stiff and the music and great. don't miss the galley experience. it's a favorite for sure.

so i've passed this place a million times and never once thought about going in, until today. very glad i did. fresh horseradish in the bloody mary, fish and chips that don't leave my stomach feeling 5 lbs heavier. and then the atmosphere, awesome. the occasional bar fly ads to it's charm. classy!

may look like an abandoned ship, but it's a yacht in flavor. i love the galley located on main street in santa monica. it may look like an abandoned ship from the outside, but it is definitely a yacht when it comes to quality and taste of the food and drinks.

the galley opened in 1934, and remains santa monica's oldest restaurant and bar. owner, captain ron makes sure "the drinks are stiff and the friendly service is first class."

the menu offers everything from seafood to steaks to soups, salads and everything in between. try their famous salad with the galley "secret recipe" house dressing - taste like thousand island dressing with a hint of tang and something you can't quite place your taste buds on. other favorites include: crab cakes, lobster tacos, clam chowder, pasta dishes and more.

from the outside naval theme to the christmas light-lit inner deck (yes, those are lit-up blow-fish!), we dug the dark, cozy vibe and the yummy-in-my-tummy food menu.

swordfish sans sword. last year i studied the pro tools digital audio stuff in santa monica with chilitos & his crew. we had alot of fun in class those two weeks, as well as in different restaurants each day. i would park my rented mustang convertible @ the beach and walk the two blocks to audiograph for class. one afternoon i met an aspiring actress @ the beach, (how rare, meeting one of those in l.a. ~ right? imagine that ;)
she was way too young to be interested in me, but accepted my offer to take her to the galley, est. 1934, for dinner. we did the calamari and grilled swordfish. even without the sword, we were not at all disappointed; it was really good eating.
needless to say, i didn't get the dessert i was trying not to drool over, but she made me promise to call her when i get back to california. i told her i will be happy to; the sooner, the better~~~

our rating: & & & & { 4 out of 5 calamari }

yum!. had the vodka penne w/ filet mignon special the other day and wow! it was delicious, they should make it a permanent menu item. they also had a cool happy hour at the bar. my wife and i had a couple of tasty drinks real cheap before we sat down for dinner.
