the fish market - san mateo

fresh fish fried or grilled with a good variety of sides. it is beside a lake so you can have a relaxing meal with ducks swimming beside you while seagulls fly above. i love their oysters and calamari steak.

on a recent business trip , was looking out for some great seafood. found that the fish market at san mateo is an apt place. ended up going there thrice, alone and with colleagues. you get good variety of fish and i tried the mesquite grilled salmon, tuna and trout and for once i tried the cold smoked salmon. it was an absolute delight to relish these dishes. with the options of 2 sides on the entrees ( which surprisingly is the main course in north america), the colesaw, augratin potatoes, fishwife rice were pretty good.

we came here expecting a good fresh seafood dinner. what we received tasted like it had been frozen and we all left with bad belly aches. we def will not be going back to the fish market.

we figured since we were in san francisco area, we ought to try the seafood. i didn’t think much of this restaurant when i saw it online but then we got to sit out back on the patio and this view was amazing! the only problem with eating outside is that you don’t have the clatter of background restaurant noise to drown out your neighbors and so you are forced to overhear all conversations from neighboring tables. the oyster bar wej saw a lot of people waiting to sit at the oyster bar (when there were free tables in the back). maybe the oyster bar has a separate menu? fresh fish! this show case window reminds me of that scene from aladdin when jasmine is wandering around the marketplace for the first time ever and a guy holds a huge fish in her face and says “fresh fish! we catch ‘em! you buy ‘em!” new england chowder so sue me! i ordered new england clam chowder in san francisco. beggars can’t be choosers. i haven’

great place to dine outside very nice view of the lake. food has always been fantastic l ove the place

always fresh, always good. have eaten here many many times with small and large groups, and have never been disappointed. everything is fresh all the way through the meal down to the bread that was served.

you'll be happy you tried this place - there is a reason it has been there for so many years.

this place is too tummy. waiters could be nicer. go between monday thru thursday before6:00pm and it half the price.

very good. ate here on a business trip with two others, immediately after landing first place we went to... and it is well worth the cost. decor is quite nice, good view also. food and service are top notch. one of the other guys did have to send his fish [i forget what type - he is extremely beyond picky anyway] back, to get just a bit more cooking done, but no problems at all with anything else - seasonings, presentation, and taste all great. recommended restaurant.

consistently good!. enjoyed the ginger salmon and swordfish. both were cooked perfectly. try the oyster sampler and chowder.

whenever i come to the bay area to visit family in belmont and milpitas i always come to the fish market because the food and people are great and it is an amazing atmosphere. i give it a 100 percent thumbs up.
