had lunch with a co-worker yesterday and both of our meals were delicious and a good value - french dip and apple & gorgonzola salad with grilled chicken and maple vinaigrette. employees were friendly and helpful. i saw workers carrying trays for mothers with multiple kids. great food, and so much better than your typical museum food.

a nice plate with two perfectly cooked eggs, a small cup of fruit, sweet potato slices and sausage patties. it’s a good breakfast and some items to take note. the sweet potato hash is nearly like sweet potato chips with sauteed peppers and onions along with a dash of syrup. interesting and different, i imagine little kids (and me) really enjoy this combo!

pleasantly surprised!. who would think you could get great tasting fresh food from a museum? not me! i reluctantly tried out the daily planet café because we were visiting the museum and this was the only choice. i was pleasantly surprised. i will be back just to eat next time.

neat place - and much more than just a cafe!. this place is so much more than a cafe. it offers breakfast entrees, pastries, a full coffee bar, sandwiches, small entrees and a salad bar. they also have eight north carolina beers on tap and childress nc wines on draft. the cafe, operated by rocky top hospitality which also operates twisted fork and rockwell's american grill, focuses on using local ingredients.

the place to be. the daily planet cafe is dedicated to offering north carolina foods and beverages. the menu even has the “got to be nc” logo! i asked the employee her favorite dish on the menu. she suggested i order the chicken salad melt. of course i took her advice because she told me i wouldn’t be disappointed. elise and i went to get our drinks after placing our orders. i freaked out! elise’s fiance, ches and i are both addicted to cheerwine. we also have the same birthday. i think we are twins. or maybe all people born on october 6th constantly crave cheerwine. anyway, this was the first restaurant i’ve seen offer cheerwine from the soda fountain! i immediately sent ches a text message to alert him of my new, delicious discovery. i’m so happy the daily planet cafe is close to where i work, you better believe i’ll be coming here to stock up on my cheerwine. they should probably give me a frequent cheerwine buyers card.

one of the absolute best restaurants in raleigh, attached to the north carolina museum of natural sciences , is the daily planet cafe . no kidding! and locals are beginning to figure it out. image: facebook.com/thedailyplanetcafe local, local, local is pervasive at the cafe. from local beer, wine and coffee to produce, proteins and bread. they’re not shy about it, either. inside, looking out monitors throughout the cafe show a steady stream of local sources. i was so impressed, i kept snapping pictures of the monitors. too much glare meant they didn’t turn out that great, but you can see what i’m talking about by browsing photos here . didn’t ask, but i’m guessing the countertops are made with recycled tin or other metal. the menu not only screams local and homemade, it screams “delicious” and “excellent pricing”.  take this grilled cheese sandwich ($6) made on honey wheat bread with local brie, bacon and apple chutney. and then there’s their fried green tomato blt ($8) , made on multi

amazing.. i had not gotten a chance to go to the museum since it had been remodeled so i jumped at the opportunity to gaze at the huge globe for lunch! even when you are driving past the museum you can’t help but notice how inviting and gorgeous the outdoor seating is. perfectly placed in downtown raleigh. i was excited to check it out. unfortunately, it was very windy the day that we went and when we sat outside it was impossible to keep anything on the table. however, when i return i am looking forward to sitting on the patio. for my choice of food i took advantage of the gloomy day (seeing that 90 degree weather was heading our way) and went with the combo of grilled cheese and tomato bisque soup. i like that they had the option of pairing a sandwich with either a soup or salad. i was also pleased to find that instead of getting just a half grilled cheese, you get a whole sandwich and a pretty large bowl of soup. mine was very good, though i find it hard to believe you could mess up grilled cheese. i am excited to go back and try out some of the small entrees that they had when i am a little more hungry. i have my eye on the chicken and broccoli alfredo and will definitely be going back when the weather is nice.

great lumch stop. with no item topping more than $8, it is a great lunch stop. you order at the front and then get an electronic pager to alert you when your order is ready to pick up. they moved relatively quickly even during the lunch rush.
