no opinion. a while back 3 of us set out to lunch at the coup. we arrived before noon and half of the restaurant was empty. when asked by the friendly server, we stated that we needed a table for 3. two of us were there and the third was looking for parking. well, we were told that we could not be seated until our entire party arrived! i said that we would order drinks right away while we waited. no. we could stand and have our drinks but we could not be seated. anyways. wish i could give a review of the food. never will.

it was great to catch up with a good friend this past week at calgary's most popular vegetarian/organic restaurant that serves up such great eats you don't really miss the meat. i haven't dined at the coup, located at 924 17th ave sw, for years and was excited to have some fresh eats. i follow the coup on instagram and they are always posting delicious looking daily specials and mouthwatering cocktails which definitely put them back on my radar. i know that this restaurant is a favorite for many in the city and i highly recommend ordering a drink when you dine here. .they have so many smoothies and boozy concoctions i feel like i could swing by on a daily basis to check out what they have cooked up each day. here is what we had! the famous "buffalo cauliflower wings" rolled in chickpea flour and baked served with a vegan ranch dip. it is uncanny how similar these cauliflower bites resembled wings in taste and texture. the chickpea flour actually gave these cauliflower florets a nice crunch like a wing and they were spicy! we really enjoyed these hearty bites. my dinner date chose the new "rhymin' & ramen" which had house made noodles in a smoked kombu vegetable broth garnished with micro greens, corn and seaweed. he enjoyed it but found it to be a bit of a smaller portion and not as satisfying as he was hoping for.  my dish, on the other hand, was extremely hearty and i couldn't finish it all which is rare for me right now since i am breast feeding and have the craziest appetite ever. this is the magic dragon bowl and i chose stir fried tofu with quinoa in a green coconut curry. i also had the choice of lentils or chickpeas instead of tofu, brown rice instead of quinoa or peanut satay, tahini-miso or sundried tomato and cashew instead of the coconut curry. how would you take your magic dragon bowl? it was great value with a ton of different vegetables. yum!  this, my friends, is called baby tax! hi from juliette!

i love eating here. it's amazing that we don't have more vegetarian/vegan spots in a city of 1mill. they just revamped their breakfast menu and it looks amazing. i had the frittata with chickpea soup and was very happy. it was healthy, fresh, light and tasty. can't wait to go back and try another dish.

yumo!. one of my favourite places in calgary! great food, great drinks, and great atmosphere. too bad i live in the far south otherwise i would probably be here every day. i have to agree that i like the idea it's an adult only atmosphere - not so much child friendly. no hate to people with children, but sometimes it's nice to go out without any kids around. if i was at more a chain restaurant, i expect kids to be around. it's a tiny restaurant but that gives it a more homey and warm feeling i find. fresh tasting food and great service!

i love this place. went here multiple times before the renovations and it was delicious. after the renovations it has just gotten better!!!

service is wonderful. i have had multiple servers on numerous occasions and all of them have been great. attentive, ready to answer questions, quick. simply amazing service consistently.

food is amazing. had the frittata recently and it was so tasty. cauliflower, fennel, goat cheese, yum! the savoury waffle is also really tasty. i can't wait to have it again but i keep trying other things on the menu. so many great looking option i want to try them all!

wow!. went to the coup recently and it has been renovated and is just beautiful. had the savoury waffles for breakfast with honey and truffle. the waffle was topped with mushroom and fresh arugula and it was so delicious! also had an americano, great coffee. i can't wait to go back.

my friend also loved their breakfast but i can't remember what he ordered because i was too busy doting on my waffle.

even though we went in on a sunday morning we were seated promptly. service was friendly and our food came quick. will absolutely be back.

good food and service. i had a good experience here. i thought the menu was great and we had really good service. prices were decent. the only down fall would be that you will definitely have to wait for a table. will go back again sometime.

great food, great atmosphere. yesterday we went to coup, and it was amazing. i had the dragon bowl with spicy almond sauce, and it was wonderful. everything was perfectly cooked, it was spicy and flavourful, and it was beautifully presented. the server was great, providing suggestions and making us feel very welcome.

i would highly recommend this restaurant

in a city nicknamed as ‘cow-town’ where you can get some of the best beef in the world and make a pretty penny on the oil rigs, a place like the coup attracts all us green folk to come out of the woodwork… and eat great food doing it.

it was my boyfriend and i's first time at the coup and we were super excited to try this place because of the rave reviews.

when we first got in the girl that sat us down was really kind, told us the drinks of the day, we felt welcomed... well... until we met our server. this tall blonde girl, don't remember her name maybe she didn't even tell us who knows but she had the worse attitude ever didn't even give us any info about the menu.

when i ordered the upstream burger (which was delicious) i asked her if it was all vegan and she answered "yes" with a very rude tone like i should know? on the menu it specifically tells you to tell the server if you are vegan or have any special requests so why is she acting like i'm a fool when the menu tells me to tell the server. maybe you shouldn't be a server if you can't handle a simple question without being rude. again the menu tells me to tell you...

my boyfriend ordered the tempeh shawarma, we both tried it and didn't think it was anything special, tasted more like a korean wrap that needed more flavour. also a tip: if anyone wants a dipping sauce, they are huge so you can get different sauces and just share. it would have been helpful if our server actually said something especially when we both ordered the same sauce for $2 each.

when we were finished our meal she finally came back after 20 mins with the dessert menu and just to order the dessert we waited an extra 10-15 mins and then decided to just take it to go. btw we were there between 9-10 pm, it wasn't even busy, the rush was gone and what was she doing? just drinking and talking to her coworkers, being rude to her paying customers and not giving a shoot? even my boyfriend was annoyed and he doesn't get mad or annoyed easily.

very disappointed with the service, while food was good, will i try this place again? based on our first experience with the service, no... it confuses me how they have such good reviews, maybe we just went on a bad day and time, having that terrible server which saddens me because i want to try more dishes, but just because of her we don't ever want to go back and have that possibly happening again. it was extremely frustrating and awkward and it wasn't like we were bad or rude customers, in fact we were so polite and even tipped when she clearly did not deserve it and the food was overpriced for what you get.

yummy!. i went here for my birthday a while ago, and the food was all delicious! a bit slow but that tends to happen during dinner rushes, the food was amazing though, and they have lots of unique options like hot ginger pear cider! also, when the staff noticed me opening presents they brought over a gigantic bowl of raspberry sorbet for my friends and i to share, no charge! i'd definitely go back and recommend it to anyone vegetarian or not :)

maybe they don't like me.. i've tried to go to the coup, on more that one occasion.. each time it's rather a line up to the end of the street, or complete opposite - no one is in the restraunt, but it's a 45 minute wait.

last two times i've been there, (once at lunch and once at about 6pm) i went in surprised at how dead it was (4-6 tables open) and was put off by the words "table for 4? okay, that will be about 45 minutes..."

i don't understand how a resturant that doesn't take reservations, and has almost every table open, at 'prime dinner time' wouldn't beable to accomodate people...

hopefully someday i'll beable to taste the coup's food. since it smells and looks so damn good.. but with the roll i'm on.. i don't think i'll be going back anytime soon.
