really liked this steakhouse ... great ambiance, good service, good prices and the food was better than most! my steak was cooked perfectly, which is near impossible to do when eating well done. i look forward to the next time i am in town to try more of their menu.

last week i got to show you around main street wooster - and it was so much fun! this week - it's about beer + cow! (thanks again to main street wooster and green door media for the trip.). after our lengthy day of shopping - we hiked it from the hotel to jafb - the brewery in wooster. this place was hopping! there was a polka band on tap - and mind you this was a wednesday night...

the city square steakhouse is a hidden gem in wooster, ohio and has the nicest patio in town by far! if you're looking for a great place in town that makes you feel like your on vacation somewhere, you'll want to go here. i'm a vegetarian and they always have veggie options and will even make special dishes upon request. the sun dried tomato pesto risotto was the best thing i've eaten here, but it was a seasonal special. crossing my fingers it comes back next year!

steak!!. for me, the gold standard for any steak comparison is ruth chris' steakhouse...and city square is right up their! great local joint with friendly staff, nice environment, great steak! i've heard burgers are good too, but i always get the house sirloin.

i've had steaks at various restaurants throughout the country, including carnevino, del frisco's and the usuals like flemings, hyde park, eddie merlot's and ken stewart's and this is one of my favorites. smith & wollensky's cajun ribeye is the only steak i like better. (note: i only get the ribeye and cannot vouch for the other steaks.) truffle fries are amazing. salads are nothing special. consistency can be an issue.

had reservations for valentines day, our first time there. had fillet medallions with prawns in garlic lobster sauce and 12 oz rib eye with mashed sweet potatoes. appetizers of seafood bisque and seared scallops with maple bacon sauce. service was prompt and very friendly, kept pace with kitchen. the food was absolutely fantastic. we had desert which we never get, the creme brûlée was pure heaven. perfect ending to a perfect meal. yes we over indulged but hey it's valentines day

exceptional burgers. i was not excited about moving to wooster and leaving high quality food behind. and then i found city square. the food is exceptional, no holds barred.

although they do have a dining room, i am more informal and like to change into more comfortable clothes post work. i take my parent to the dining room, but i prefer to grab a bite from the bar menu in the bar (or outside, weather permitting) where the attire is more casual.

the bar menue is pub grub with a quality twist. cheese fries, for example, are thin french fries covered with the perfect salt and herb seasoning tossed with very very large chunks of parmesan (it is like they took a knife to a hunk of parmesan)...and then drizzle truffle (or rosemary) oil all over it. they are like no other cheese fries i have ever had.

their burgers are fantastic. they have found a way to keep the croutons in the french onion soup crunchy until the very last bite. their happy hour specials are great (i would pay a pretty penny to have the bison burger slider in a full size burger on the regular menu) and they have a deal with the wine bar across the street that you can bring food from the steakhouse into somar and drink wine to your heart's content.

the owner is often flitting about and clearly does quality control. he also does a good job of integrating local produce into the menue. he also owns the bistro across the street. i very much appreciate the sophistication that he brings to wooster.

is it expensive? for wooster, a bit. for new york or chicago (where i would expect to find this restaurant)? no way.

great scot!. wooster's...wayne county's idea of "fine dining". unpretentious menu and a friendly staff, can't help the kitchen's lackluster attitude in food prep and imagination.
