overall the meal was wonderful. calamari was delicious, garlic shrimp just and tasty. drinks were interesting as well. the goat cheese salad was also a winner. however i was craving a caesar salad and to my disappointment, i did not get what i hoped for. they give you leaves of romaine (instead of cut up) topped with a tasteless caesar dressing and parmesan. on the side is a piece of bread topped with tomatoes. i have had a number of caesar salads and this one was the worst. i think they were trying to be too creative instead of going with a lovable classic.

lobster roll review. matt storch is known for creative riffs on standard fare. but his take on the simple, unpretentious lobster roll? to our delight, storch doesn't outkick his coverage. his rendition is a heartfelt homage to the classical clr he grew up with along the shore: a quarter pound of chopped lobster, slowly warmed in butter, ready for a spritz of lemon. his lone tweak: the bun. it’s a sturdy, top-cut pretzel roll, salty and nuanced with umami flavors, but also built to soak up any excess butter without getting soggy (a roll problem that was fairly common at some of our stops. when buttering meat destined for a thin, hot dog bun, drizzle actually works better than drench) the playful plating promises a picnic. just gaze at the colors and shapes on the plate: the warm, reddish hues of glistening lobster heaped high in the golden pretzel bun, the sea-green stack of citrus slaw, and a “bag o’ home made chips” burnished barbecue brown. you can’t help but grin. and salivate. tip: during the summer, storch also serves a higher end clr at match, his flagship in norwalk.

beyond the obvious street cred, the palpable success of the restaurant is found in the breeziness of its well-designed space paired with a globally-inspired menu long on classics. the chelsea’s menu is a witty take on many dishes we all know and love, combined with a consistency of quality that comes from veteran owners and chefs who know the fairfield county appetite very well.

the chelsea, located in the heart of fairfield on unquowa place, will open in a just under a month in mid-july. the new 80 seat restaurant includes 12 outdoor seats, a lively bar, a global gastropub menu and a hefty dose of whimsy. the trio responsible for creating what will likely be fairfield county’s newest hot spot are: scott beck , co-owner of match and the loft in south norwalk, and tavern in monroe ; matt storch , chef and co-owner of match in south norwalk; and kevin mchugh , co-owner of grey goose in southport and spotted horse in westport.   since jumping the atlantic, the term “gastropub” has been conflated to include any number of dishes and global influences with a side of drink. no matter the interpretation, the emphasis on ambitious food is the constant.

the ambience is great - lots of excitement and a lively crowd gathers for dinner on a saturday night. we recommend the garlicky shrimp and poppers appetizers.
