the bubbly mermaid oyster bar

wonderful quirky place with delicious fresh oysters and great champagne selection. $3 per oyster and $12 per glass of champagne. sometimes it's a bargain and sometimes it isn't. but it keeps the math easy when you leave. they don't take credit cards so bring cash or debit card. great atmosphere!

went in here with my fiancée. it was a semi busy night so the owner was rude and told us to find our own menu.

we ordered one of each oyster and they came out cold and tasting the same.

also the entire interior is dropping with water and has a very clammy feel.

very cozy lovely place. we went there for a girls night out and it was perfect! the owner is wonderful, the place has a european feel to it, food and champagne are amazing! we cannot wait to go back.

i adore this little place. small pub style little oyster place with a great selection of champagne and oysters. reasonably priced. the staff is always amazing and friendly when i visit. they make wonderful drink suggestions, and are consistently prompt with service. i visit every birthday, and i make up all sorts of excuses to take friends here. even if you don't like oysters, or if you've never had them and are wary, go here. give it a try. i'm always pleased.

great oysters and good service. for all of you whining about $3 oysters, its obvious you have never eaten someplace nice before. try sullivan's where they are quite a bit more, bought from the giant supplier who will remain nameless, and that place is only semi fancy. i will gladly pay $3 for a huge fresh oyster that is served to me any day! the service was good, the beer selection could have been a bit better. the champagne and wine selection was great. i would recommend this place to anyone wanting a good appetizer or a relaxing drink with friends. and i am in no way a hipster, hell i'm in my 40's.

price gouging. someone tell me in what universe $3 per oyster is a "$$" rating? $0.75 is a good price for a raw oyster...

take cash. i liked the place just fine but when i went to pay they wanted cash or a debit card only. i used my bank debit card but when the charge came through it was for alaska fresh seafood llc with no evident connection to the restaurant. this led to a lot of confusion and i even canceled my card because i thought it had been compromised. a warning from the waitress would have been helpful.

avoid at all costs. small overpriced oysters with rude owner and douchebag customers. people come to alaska to get away from hipsters. hipsters in alaska flock here. enough said.

cute atmosphere, terrible service & value.... the style of this place is super cute.tee oysters i had were very good. that said, the service was terrible! i was super excited to check this place out after reading some of the other reviews. totally bummed with the experience :( i walked in and was immediately charmed by the decor. however, it was several minutes before my boyfriend and i so much as received a greeting (after awkwardly seating ourselves). then, we were asked by the host about drinks and were told there was no drink menu- also awkward. rather than give us something to look over, it was like a quiz gone wrong with him trying to deduce what we should have to drink...weird. we finally got the drinks covered and ordered. i had oysters and my boyfriend tried the smoked salmon caesar. my oysters were admittedly good, but his salad was not. the salmon was flavorless and slimy; he couldn't eat it. it is too bad that this place is so far from reaching its potential.

cool little place!. can't say enough great things about this place. 1) awesome oysters. 2) champaign 3) apollo is the man.
looking for a hip, different place to have a few drinks? this is the place.

good clam chowder

paulo, the owner of this joint is awesome and so down to earth. lovely array of bubbles and paulo makes some good recommendations :-) ! the ceviche is awesome here. try the crab cakes and the seared scallops! th crowd here is awesome!

while the bubbly mermaid is very interesting and very tasty, being new to ak i was not ready for the cost. where i'm from oysters do not cost $36 a dozen! with that being said i had a great time and enjoyed the company and food. i didn't enjoy the bill after.

very nice and comfortable little place. great service. great food. crabcakes are amazing. the atmosphere is perfect:)

go here now!. before it gets too crowded. if you have a hankering for oysters and a super chill kinda place, this is your spot. just go!! this is what dining should be about. it's small, only has a bar, but it promotes a sort of talking amongst your neighbors. more of community bar, where people share some good stories, some laughs, some drinks & some excellent food.
