expensive beer and mediocre food. the live band was great though. ordered the fish and chips which cold, the fish was soggy and the chips were tasteless. avoid

good fish and chips. a short walk from faneuil hall and quincy market, the bell in hand tavern is close enough for tired travellers to lurch over for a refreshing pint (or two) yet far enough away from the cacaphony of buskers. cosy, good service, and a reasonable prices. the front is especially good to watch an international parade of tourists pass by on the freedom trail.

i highly recommend the fish 'n' chips, which was lightly breaded and came with crispy fries and fresh made cole slaw. we washed it all down with a pint of their house brand, the bell in hand (an amber) and a half-pint of harpoon, a local cider. delicious!

cool bar that has its own special sam adams brew! that alone makes me recommend it. the fish and chips were good as well, though they should add another piece to make it worth the cost.

1795 opening bar - claiming to be the oldest in the us still in service.  close to  faneuil hall marketplace, and i didn't want to eat there while walking around i found the bell in hand.  was able to get a table against the fully opened windows so could look out and watch people.  server was pleasant and attentive.  usually a busy place since it is a landmark and close to shopping/tourist places.  nice selection of beer with a limited menu.  have the basics and the burger i had was excellent.  one of the better burgers i have had in boston area.  a little pricey, but again you pay for it since it is in a tourist area.

clam chowder good. oysters, atmosphere, staff and beer wonderful! but it's the history of the place we found the most enjoyable. if you are in town, it's a must try!

this place is our stop to grab a classic lobster roll before heading back to portland. i heard it is one of the oldest bars in the u.s. the waitstaff have always been friendly and the lobster rolls consistently good!

great pub. doesn't get any better than this. street side dining. lots of fresh air. great beers on tap. excellent food. crab cakes come on a salad bed and were very filling. french fries are crisp and salty. beer is cold and good. if in boston, walk past the union oyster house and eat here instead.

great place to drink. this is one of my favorite places to grab a beer and sit back for some people watching. the complaints about the rude service are justified as i've dealt with it on occasion but this is a bar, not a fine dining establishment. no excusing bad behavior, but it's not the end of the world. i'm there to grab a pint and enjoy my time.

in general, it was fine. it was nothing to blog or write home about though. i think it would be more fun to be there at night with karaoke and beer and no kids.

rude staff. staff is extremely rude and disrespectful. we called twice to see when the cover started, we were told 9:30. we (3 girls) arrived at 9pm, told there was a $10 cover. they got very verbally aggressive when we suggested (nicely) they inform their staff of times in the future. both bouncers and manager used foul language and refused to even have a conversation. i will not be going back and will encourage everyone to take their business elsewhere
