the best little place in town!. buddy of mine introduced me to this place a couple weeks ago. been there 4 times since and brought people every time! love it! the food selection is awesome, great add ons and an awesome beer list. right by the water...great service and just all around the best little place in town!

this is a nice little local spot. came for a late lunch saturday afternoon. had the el diablo snap dog - very good. kids shared some corn dogs and fries. everyone really liked the fries crunchy outside, just right inside. wife got through fish sandwich - good size portion. everything tasted great. liked the location on the marina - will likely be back again.

the barking dog has made my favorite list! i had never been before so didn't know what to expect. it was love at first sight the moment i saw the signage and the boat dock location. this reminds of a cool little spot on ocracoke island my honeybunny and i like. i ordered the el diablo dog and he had the carolina drive-in dog and shared a side of clam strips. omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow!!!!!!!! these are far from your average hotdogs. these babies are off the chain! the clam strips were cooked to perfection and were definitely fresh. i easily could've ordered another dog and more strips but i have to watch my waistline. 👍👍

i'm in the area for a convention, so naturally, i'm looking for new restaurants near the hampton roads convention center to try. i found out about this place rather indirectly. there's a puzzle geocache in which the solution leads to this restaurant. after finding the geocache, i went inside to try the food since i'm not one to dismiss a good lunch recommendation from people who apparently know the area.

this is one of those places that feels like a local hidden gem. there is a wide-variety of hot dogs on the menu and strangely, they also have crab cakes. so of course, i tried the crab cake sandwich. i had no expectation that a hot dog place would make a decent crab cake sandwich but to my surprise, it was quite good. also, their fries are seasoned with old bay, which is another good surprise. on a day with good weather, the ambiance is rather nice since you're dining right next to the marina / inlet. and finally, the service was beyond comparison. even though it was my first time there, the restaurant owner took interest in my reason for visiting the area and made sure everything was perfect.

only caveat is watch out the uneven surface in the parking lot, especially the part that slopes sharply towards the water.

we loved this place!! the setting on the dock was perfect for a casual family meal! the black and blue dog was great! the only change would be bigger drinks!

phenomenal dogs. quick, cheap and delicious. extensive beer selection. you won't regret coming here for dinner or lunch. because you're basically outside, it's best to come on a nice day.

this is a nice little place to get a good meal. i visit this place often with my mother and she always gets the blackened tuna. the staff has always been nice and friendly. the selection of sausages and hot dogs you can't really find around town. i keep saying next time i go back i'm going to try something different but i always end up getting the buffalo chicken sausage!

great atmosphere. its so much more fun when you opt to sit with new people at the picnic tables. you get to eat, have great conversation, and if you lucky make new friends. i recommend trying something new every time you visit. they have specials up on the chalkboard. also please be patient. this isn't fast food, its a local family restaurant so sit back and enjoy the bay breeze and you will be glad you came.

this is a charming place next to a dock in downtown hampton. i've never had table service at a hot dog place before, but the staff make you feel right at home in the nearly-open-air patio area. they have a variety of different dogs and you're bound to find something to your liking. for some of the dogs you can even choose a snap-dog or traditional all-beef dog. the special one day was something called the hot, white, and bleu dog, and it was not for me. it had way too much bleu cheese for my liking. if you just can't get enough bleu cheese you would love this hot dog. on my first visit, i thought the onions and buns were not fresh, but subsequent visits have been great.  i now go here every once in a while and i'd recommend it to anyone who is curious to try it.

i am a suck for a good hot dog and the barking dog more than exceeded my expectations. we've been several times and have yet to be disappointed with anything that we've ordered.

i had the best fish sandwich i've ever eaten tuesday night at the barking dog. it was soooo good that i took a picture of it, and i've been showing it to everyone i know!

stale bread. visited the restaurant on monday, 28 oct 2013. the dogs come in 2 sizes. the snap dog (regular) and 1/4 pounder. ordered a couple snap dogs. the dogs were okay but the bread was stale. like crouton stale. asked the waitress and she there's nothing she can do about it.the dog was actually good despite the stale bun. funny thing is that the 1/4 pounder dog, which came on a bigger bun, were fine. so, i tried a snap dog and the larger, fresh bun and it was pretty good...but too much bread. i might go back just to give it one more try, but i question the owners integrity and dedication to the customer and quality product. who knowingly serves stale food to customers? someone who doesn't cares

we've made the barking dog a regular stop. the setting is perfect. our favorites are the fish tacos, the fish sandwich and the burgers. try it!
