thai bamboo restaurant

i prefer the old thai bamboo. as a frequent patron of thai bamboo at its former location (just one block south on divison from where it is now), i was excited to try the new, modern restaurant upon its relaunch. sadly, i was disappointed with the direction it has taken.

while it is great that this restaurant is doing well enough financially to afford a much larger facility, i felt much more at home in the original, small building. the new restaurant has almost a cafeteria atmosphere, whereas the older restaurant booths seemed much more private. when i visited the new thai bamboo location with several friends, i noticed that the portion sizes were quite a bit smaller than they had been, and the rest of my party agreed. the food still tastes good, but many things just seem a bit off with this new restaurant.

pad thai was bad thai. worst excuse for pad thai i've ever had. whenever i go to a new thai restaurant i sometimes get the pad thai to gauge the quality of the restaurant because it is the staple thai dish and should be perfected by every thai restaurant. i asked for it to come pretty spicy but it didn't have a hint of heat; had to pour chili pepper flakes on it. the rice was overcooked and not even jasmine. the noodles seemed overcooked. there wasn't even any peanuts or lime juice. i've been to dozens of thai restaurants across the country and all of their pad thai dishes at least tasted similar to one another; this one did not. that is all.

love the food doesn't like service. we went there last sunday night. our blonde server was always busy on the phone and didn't seem to bother taking care of us. where is all the good servers you used to have??? we came here so many years and it seems like most of the good servers that we love are gone. we want someone who really knows the food and treat us nice.

getting bad. they used to served pretty good authentic thai food, but over the years it got "americanized"

pretty good. the lunch specials are worth it. had a pinapple curry chicken dish with some kind of wild rice. was really good but not spicy enough at all. asked for a four but i don't think they gave it to me. ok service. weren't very good at re-filling drinks.

food was cold. not impressed. my chicken arrived cold, with hardly any sauce--it had good flavor but was dry and hard to choke down. our "sticky rice" wasn't just sticky--it was like glue! cemented firmly in a little bamboo basket...just one big cold lump. it was fork and spoon resistant so we ended up ripping off "chunks" with our fingers. not happy about paying $40 for cold food that i have to eat with my hands. overpriced, horrible food. this place is gross and it smells weird. sorry...not a fan.

i used to love coming here but over the years the food and service just got bad. besides the pad thai, all the other food taste like low quality chinese food.

okay food, bad service. just finished eating there. was seated promptly then waited about ten minutes to even order drinks. by that time we qerw ready to order, we started with veggy rolls and tom yum soup. veggy rolls were actually really good a little spendy but good. the tom yum soup was the worst tom yum i have ever had, and i have had at least 30-40 different tom yums it smelled and tasted like fish sauce.and 11 dollars, i was with six people and all of us hated it. for our main course we had panang curry, two chicken phad thais one spicy the other mild, and casheq chicken. the curry was good not the best but good and so was the cashew chicken. the phad thai, half of us liked it the others didnt, it tasted like bbq sauce.. over all i give this place a 6 1/2 ...

oh yummy. thai is my favorite and this is the best in town. for about ten bucks you can get enough lunch to have leftovers for dinner. i have eaten here maybe a hundred times -- at all 3 locations. never a complaint on the food quality or the outstanding service. i highly recommend this place.

amazing curry dishes. i love going to thai bamboo for the curry dishes they have....they are consistent and delicious. the other dishes they have there are decent, but the curry is where its at.

the prices are a little high for thai food, but the service is always great and the location on sprague is nice and small if you want to go out of the way for a more intimate dinner.
