i had a one hour gap between two lectures and decided to go for breakfast with my mate. tastebud is literally a 3 minute walk from campus so it seemed convenient and quick. i've learnt quickly that stellenbosch functions on african time and this has become clear on the visits i have made to numerous cafés in town. tastebud was no different. it was relatively quiet for once so we didn't have to wait for a table which was a nice change. i've been to tastebud before where it's been absolutely packed. i've tried the harvest table and also ordered lunch from the menu. i haven't been disappointed with the food so far!

on friday, we were immediately approached and asked what we wanted to drink. their cappuccinos are good which for me is a big achievement. but unfortunately the cup was not big enough to last me the amount of time it took our breakfast to arrive. we waited over 20 minutes and it wasn't even full and on any other day i wouldn't have been too fussed but we had a lecture to get to.

mine came first, but they had made a mistake with my order and it had to be sent back. after another 5 minutes, the two meals we actually ordered came through. i must say it was all beautifully presented and smelt delicious. i had just enough time to snap a photo before we dug in! i had the vineyard breakfast which included two perfectly fluffy scrambled eggs, juicy mushrooms, plump roasted baby tomatoes and potato and corn fritters. all this an a slice of seeded toast. i wish i had more time to savour it and eat it slower than i did but i would really love to go back and have it again when i can do just that!! despite the mix up with my order and the slow service, the food is really good, the staff are friendly and the whole environment feels laid-back and welcoming. my advise: treat your tastebuds and given them a visit!

taste bud tends to be one of the more quiet weekday coffee spots in the midst of the stellenbosch student town. the interior is surprisingly peaceful considering its busy surroundings, and offers a cosy and welcoming hideout from the bustling streets. their menu items are generous, tasty and well-priced, and they also offer a broad variety of take-home goods such as freshly baked sweet treats and local artisanal products. when i need to arrange a quick meeting or find a quiet and friendly venue to get some work done, taste bud is always my port of call.

went into stellenbosch with a few friends for a quick celebratory lunch between classes, and was truely taken aback by the quality and variety! i was incredibly impressed with the service, food and atmosphere! we had the karoo cappuccinos and i had the open style danish ciabata with onion marmalade, bacon, avo, humus, feta and honey glazed butternut! was to die for! the best combination of flavours out there! thank you for a spectacular meal. we can't wait to come back and indulge once more!

best place to go for a hearty home made harvest buffett table meal... dish up your food and weigh and pay off the menu , or order something off the menu. also have delicious treats especially the cheesecake. nice to sit outside on the stellenbosch streets surrounded by oak trees. service needs some work especially for customers that dish up from the buffet table. definitely one of my go to lunch spots
