taqueria tsunami

it's kind of loud and there are definitely better tacos in athena but we go back for the asian nachos and egg rolls.

the food and service here are incredible! i had the aloha taco and the chipolte lime taco with yucca fries and i cannot begin to describe how amazing it was! our server was incredible, very knowledgable and prompt!

great food and even better cocktails. william (bartender) was very quick and attentive. he really made me feel like a welcomed guest. i will definitely be back

never disappointed here!! i've been here quite a few different time and even brought family when they were visiting. it's great every single time!

had the most delightful, quick, and amazing lunch today. i ordered the asada zing and aloha tacos and was highly impressed. the asada zing was the favorite, however, the aloha had a unique blend of flavors that were very appetizing. the gentleman who served me was very well informed regarding the menu and preparation of each item and fully understood the true meaning of premier customer service, a crucial business practice that has been almost long lost, especially in the food service industry. i highly recommend giving this place a try. i will definitely be back real soon.

i love taqueria and i'm glad it's thriving in athens (i originally ate here at the one in marietta square, which i think is the original). i think they offer a unique menu with mostly good follow through. some things are of course more tasty than others, but that's just trial and error to find what suits your taste. i love their shrimp tempura tacos, and their avocado egg rolls are one of the best things you'll ever eat (if you like avocados of course - there's a lot of 'em stuffed in those fried rolls). their jalapeño tater tots are a yummy treat as well. also make sure to take advantage of their rewards punch cards.

terrible service!. the food was pretty good. the service was terrible. they seemed to get a pop right when we arrived. we asked if we could sit at the bar to aleve some of the rush, and the hostess told us to go right ahead. we waited for about 20 minutes till we were even greeted by a server. our food came out about 10 minutes before our appetizer, we waited for napkins and then again for silverware. employees sat down at the other side of the bar to eat their shift meals, so i double checked their closing time thinking that might have been the reason for everything. they didn't close for another 1 hour and 15 minutes. our server was one of the ones who sat down to eat, so we were never asked how the food was and waited an additional 20 minutes before another server realized we were ready to pay. in all, we were there for almost 1 hour and 30 minutes, and it took us all of 10 to eat our food and drink our beer. we will not be back.

the rice was undercooked on our rice plates. there are small meat portions, and if you want sake you must pay fir the bottle.

so overall this place isn't bad. the bartender is terrible. if you look younger than 40 don't expect to be acknowledged for 15 minutes. as for the food, the starters are great. yuca and tots were delicious- but you can't screw up cheap fried food. the rice bowl had good flavor but a small amount if vegetables and meat. the rice covers most of the plate and is some cheap par-boiled brand. i warn you ahead of time-- it is rock hard. go for the tacos if you want to try this place. you have been warned.

need service training. just watching the servers bounce around with no real order is frustrating. there needs to be a training system, so patrons aren't watching all the servers gathering around the bar tasting a beer on tap and laughing while you can see your food order waiting on the kitchen shelf.i watched one girl twist her long hair over and over (yuck) in between taking forever to wipe a wine glass and then having to get eye level with another server doing the same thing to get the wine poured. what?? is it really that hard to pour a glass of wine? if you have plenty of time, you will enjoy the food, but the servers are like a circus act.

good service, wish i could of tried the food.. me and my husband arrived at taqueria tsunami just before 5 pm today and were seated outside as per our request. the waitress was rather friendly and asked us if it was our first time eating here which it was. she went over the menu which had a lot of nice offerings and after a while we placed our order for two of the tsunami trios and a side of queso for an appetizer along with two drinks.
we received the queso and drinks and enjoyed them, and then sat there for over an hour waiting for our tsunami trios which never arrived. during the time, our waitress was attentive and made sure our drinks were filled and that we had chips for our queso. after about 50 or so minutes of waiting for our dinner though, our waitress came to us and told us she didn't know what was taking so long but assured us that our food would be coming soon.
so we waited, and waited, and waited. during this time, other groups who came in after us had already gotten their food, eaten, and left. so after nearly an hour and a half of waiting, we went inside, paid for our drinks and our queso and decided to talk to the manager.
instead of taking responsibility for the problem, the manager pointed the blame at the waitress which didn't seem right nor professional in any way. i've worked in restaurants for most of my adult life and regardless of whom the finger of blame could be pointed at, in the end, it's the fault of the manager, not the staff.
that irritated us to no end. the waitress did her job, she put the order into their system and we never received our food. whether there was something missed or not, it doesn't matter at that point. two people who should of been fed weren't. what makes it worse is that the manager was running food and considering that we were sitting near the door and hadn't received any food other then an appetizer, should of been a sign to him that perhaps there was a problem that needed rectifying.
so overall, the experience ruined our night. we went out early enough to avoid the crowds on a friday night and instead of being fed and having the rest of the night to ourselves, we had to drive 30 miles back home in order to get something to eat.
i can't recommend this place. while the service was great, the management needs to learn to be more humble and apologetic when an error occurs and rectify the situation as soon as they are made aware of it.

baja tacos - yum!. i've been here about 5 times and all have been great except the last. it was extremely busy and they couldn't handle it - we were seated right away but it took about 20 minutes to get our chips an salsa (because they didn't have any clean dish to put the chips in) and about 30 minutes to get our tacos. they skimped on the tacos but were still tasty. if this was my first time going there i probably would go back but all of the other times were good. the baja tacos are so yummy. the price is pretty decent - $8.50 for 2 tacos and a side.

great new restaurant in the new shopping plaza off of the oconee connector. friendly service and the food was excellent. it's a latin/asian fusion and has something for any taste buds. i had the baja taco and shrimp tempura taco with a side of fried yuca, which was pretty tasty. they have a customer loyalty card where you buy 9 entrees and get the 10th free. overall good experience.
