this is the second time m visiting swagat after 2 yrs
on sunday lunch buffet
it was crowded
but we were seated quickly
their is a lot of variety in the buffet than any other indian restaurant in madison
as compared to taste it's not a typical indian food ,
buffet consists
samosa, chicken 65, dosa, pakora, soup
only chicken 65 was gud other were awful.
malia chicken kabab, fish fry, tandoori chicken, chicken manchurian, butter chicken, goat curry, butter naan, bhatura,, garlic naan, panner masala, spinach saag, idli, veg biryani, chicken biryani and many more
dessert menu
mango ice cream,
gulab jamun
kheer
pudding .
on main coarse i really didn't like anything the beg n nonveg gravy were same only in one it was panner n in other chicken.
panner was stiff like rubber (eraser)
biryani was lacking in flavor
goat curry was ok
gulab jamun were not as soft it should be
mango ice cream was ok types
if you have no idea how 🇮🇳 food is then you can try this restaurant.
even once i have ordered biryani to go but 👎 it didn't fulfilled my expectations.

came here at 6pm on a friday and we were able to be seated immediately, but the line up of take out bags ready for pickup let me know it’d be a slow roll through the meal. the ambiance is ok - we were seated in the back dining room which must be used for parties as there were tables and chairs set off to the side, visible cleaning supplies, and a separate restroom.
my nine year old ordered the tandoori shrimp and demolished it - while she isn’t too terribly discerning she did speak pretty highly of it! my other kids weren’t able to order dosa - the server said they were too busy to accommodate dosa orders - which is equal parts understandable and frustrating (it’s already a two hour meal but the kids really like dosa). samosas were delicious - spicy and a “true medium” per our server. tikka masala was on point. service and attention fell off as the meal progressed and we waited a long while for the check. it was a good meal, but my loyalty lies with amber indian in middleton.

i get a kick out of real indians that aren't impressed with the food.   i've never been to india but i was hooked after my first lunch buffet.  it was fantastic.  lots of choices, very tasty, loved the mango ice cream.  the goat, while full of gristle and bones was really tasty.   i would highly recommend it for americans not knowing what indian food is supposed to taste like.  there's a few items to beware of like the donut thing soaked in yogurt sauce - not sure how anyone could like that thing?  otherwise, for lunch buffet, it's great!  can't comment on dinner.

we ordered out from swagat the other day with high expectations since we received many recommendations for the place. however, it wasn't as good as i had hoped. overall, it seems like decent indian american food. the veg pakoras we started of with were fine, plus the naan was decent. the chana masala was pretty tasty, however the aloo gobi had no salt or seasoning besides turmeric. the chicken tikka masala was more butter than anything, making it a hit amongst the non-desis in the crowd. my favorite part of the meal was the kheer. i'll stick to dessert and snacks next time.

worst experience in a very very long time. not for indians, not indian food and definitely not for those who understand respect, food, flavor and taste. when bottled sparkling water is the best dish on the table, you know you have a challenge.  gobi parantha was horrible. masala dosa and sambar are two different dishes as they will be served 10 minutes apart ;) coconut chutney coimes straight from freezer. mysore dosa means chilli and some more chilli and some more and flavor, paste, dosa just don't matter. it is important to add veggies to biryani, agree, but 2 inch pieces of cauliflower? almost raw carrot, probably from some other dish.on top of it, a complain means, refund of price of dish, seriously? i left cas on the table for the dish. this restaurant seriously needs to rethink what they are serving and how. the place was busy and catering specially to locals and visitors wo were non-indians.  i wish i stop trusting reviews blindly.

people seem to enjoy this for their buffets but that has meant we haven't been blown away when we have tried to order a la carte. food is a tad on oilier and bolder side loaded with tomato puree. prices are reasonable but a little bit at the cost of experience.

the best indian buffet i ever had in madison.
it offers a wide range of food, including sambar-dosa, sabzis, starters, chaat, desserts. biryani is okayish, and have just veg or chicken biryani at a time. do try the mango ice cream if you ever visit this restaurant.

one of the best indian lunch buffets we have had. we came in for the weekend lunch buffet just before noon. we were quickly seated and went for our food. lots and lots of choices, including shrimp, fish, many desserts, vegetarian choices and meat choices of chicken and goat. the number of choices is twice what many indian restaurants do for their lunch buffets. how was the food, very good and they were not scared of spicy dishes. they were always cleaning tables and keeping things neat. we were impressed and if we were locals, we would be regulars.

just as bad as maharani. after trying maharani, i tried this restaurant as my friend lives in middleton. tandoori chicken is my favorite but why is it so greasy when its supposed to be fried? i had been dinning at taj on park street for years and their food was never greasy. stay away from this place and go to taj for the best indian food in madison.

incredible lunch buffet. i can't believe it has taken me this long to try this restaurant. a friend took me with her this week and i'm so glad she did.
with 2 soup offerings, 2 salads, 3 types of rice and probably a dozen or so other hot and cold dishes this was a treat for the eyes as well as the stomach. the spices have been "americanized" but i am grateful for that; and there is no shortage of flavor.
even though i was quite full after returning to the buffet i had to try the 4 dessert options - all delicious.
i need to return soon because i can't get that wonderful gastronomic experience out of my mind!
