deja vu. it's the original joe's twin or doppelganger. it's basically the same restaurant with a different name. not bad service or food,but i just was expecting something different than the usual food.

we love this restaurant. great drinks and food. my daughter really enjoys the macaroni. their breakfast is really good too. convenient location if you're going to persephone theatre.

for a chain, this place has good food. most recently i had the grille burger, which was delicious. i like that you get to choose two sides. their booths are also comfortable.

it is loud in here so very loud, food was ok but pricy; they give lots on your plate though. it was ok

state & main, meh. i have been here numerous times and at the end i alway leave a little disappointed. the food isn't bad, but it is not great either.
first time round i had the grilled cheeseburger. the novel idea with this is that it is served on texas toast that is fried instead of a bun. the result is greasy bread, with oily cheese and a greasy burger.
second time i had the steak that came over-cooked for my liking and was definitely not a prime cut of meat. that evening was girls night out and i have to admit i drank my way through the entire martini menu. most were quite good.
third time around i came with a friend who is vegan. i felt bad for here by the end as the only vegan friendly "meal" they could come up with was the veggie burger with no cheese or bun, a side salad and fries. when the meal arrived they had garnished the salad with cheese, something that was sent back immediately. i got the cajun chicken sandwich which was super bland, no heat and no flavour.
i thought i was done with state and main after this but i went a fourth time with family, no by my choice, and experienced the same disappointment. i tried something easy "the main" burger, i mean you shouldn't be able to screw up a burger that easily right?? wrong. greasy bun, with a dry dry burger.

i can only hope that i do not have to eat there again. for drinks i would come back if i someone else was desperate to try it.

subpar food and service. i came here with some friends and i felt like the service was extremely slow, and we were rarely approached by our server. i had the red thai shrimp curry, and as the shrimp in the dish was delicious, the surrounding rice and vegetables had absolutely no flavour at all, and were very bland. i ended up mostly only eating the shrimp and leaving the restaurant still hungry.

new favourite thing: the baja brussels sprouts appetizer from state and main.

you say you don’t like brussels sprouts? do they taste grey and dull? not here. these are brussels sprouts turned into steak. unbelievably good. i just came in alone to eat them. try it! (ladies, guys like brussels sprouts as a rule. bring one. and enjoy with a beer.)

state and main as a general restaurant pretty good. excellent location next to remai gallery/ persephone theatre, riverbank and cinema. too many tvs (omg more ham 10 screens to distract you!) but if can deal with that, it’s worth a go.

this place is okay at best but nothing amazing among some of the great restaurants downtown. the first time i went here, it was for supper and we tried burgers and a couple other dishes among the table. the burgers were very disappointing and compared to a fast food frozen burger. the good thing about that evening was the drinks and service were quite good. the second time we went to try brunch on a sunday and the place was empty ! even though the place was empty the service was poor and it took a long time to get three breakfasts out. once the breakfast came out we were very disapointed and the sausage was the by far the worst thing on the plate. it has the potential to be good but from my last two visits it was not enough to make me want to go back.  overall it is okay or good enough at best.

i like this place! it's a pub, but not divey at all. the food is pretty decent, the servers are friendly, and they have a pretty good selection of alcohol. food items i like include the eggs benedict, pretzel sticks, blackened chicken burger, butter chicken, and my friend once got the chicken strips and fries, and they looked pretty amazing. 

i did, however, once get kicked out for forgetting my id when i was 23. not a big deal and totally understandable, but just in case you're looking for a pub to go to on a day you forget id, this may not be your best bet.

stopped in here on a tuesday night for a late night snack. we were seated by carley. she was very friendly and super helpful with the menu not to mention a great server by buying our first round just because it was our first visit to state & main! we ordered three appys as we were just in for a few drinks and finger foods. we ordered wings, brushetta and calimari. all three appys were done to perfection! i look forward to returning to sample the full menu!

food & service awesome. turn down the music.
loved bison burger. very accommodating to gluten issues. beautiful looking bar. nice setting. low lights, good seating plan.
only thing i can complain about is the level of sound on the music. too loud, cant visit. doesn't matter if you go at noon, or in the evening, you cannot enjoy the conversation as you're screaming over the music.

wont be back because of that reason only.

came here a few weeks ago and received excellent service and food. had the bison burger with poutine and caesar salad. it was delicious! would love to go back!

state and main is pretty basic "fancier bar food" i don't mind it there. have tried several things including the veggie burger and an alright vietnamese sub. i like their virgin ceasers when you upgrade the garnish. it's not amazing food. but the atmosphere is comfortable, there are a lot of options on the menu.

so so brunch, had the traditional with soft poached eggs and ham

eggs were medium, note i was the only customer in the place so cook was not "rushed"

$10+ , ivan probably do better at most breakfast joints as they know how to do eggs

decent but not amazing.  we went last wednesday and it was beautiful out so we sat on their rather nice patio in a shaded section.  i got a very cheesy burger (with the cheeses barely melted) and a tiny amount of fries.  my table mates got a steak sandwich and i think also a burger.  the food was decent but nothing stellar, the fry portions were small, but! they served some local-to-sk black bridge beer so i was pretty happy with that.  i'm not dying to go again, but i wouldn't say no if a friend suggested it.
