packed on a cold and wet saturday night, the atmosphere was lively and noisy even, as the footy was on. service was incredibly charming and attentive, and we were quickly settled in and ready to feast.
started off with the mac & cheese croquettes. cheesy on the inside and crispy on the outside, it was a good start to the night.
for mains, we had the parma, beef cheek and the pork belly. the parma was just alright; i would have liked the chicken to be a bit more moist. the beef cheek, on the other hand, did not have any issue with moistness; it was succulent and full of flavour. the beef cheek sat on top of a bed of black garlic mash, which had lent a lovely earthy flavour to the dish.
now, the pork belly. it was simply amazing. that crackling is the stuff that dreams are made of. may i also add that this piggy had the perfect ratio of crispy crackling, thin layer of fat beneath the crackling and oh so tender meat. the rhubarb, and kohlrabi and kale remoulade did wonders to cut through the richness of the pork. could have done without the matcha crumb though. it did nothing to add to the flavour or the texture of the meal.
a delicious meal that left us feeling very full and satisfied indeed.
