southside espresso

baristas were super friendly, fantastic espresso and tea, great atmosphere. my only reason for four stars is there isn’t a whole lot of seating on rainy days like today and the chairs/benches aren’t the most comfortable. still my favorite espresso spot in town!

lovely little coffee shop next to uchi attracts montrose dwelling hipsters. cappuccino is not overly foamy. good strong and smooth. if you like the calories, the mocha is delicious 😜

southside espresso is one of the top artisanal coffee shops in houston and should definitely be on your short list to visit if you have not.

southside espresso is housed in what was the old private dining room for felix mexican restaurant. when sean was developing the space, he brought in some artists to update the ceiling using the same art pattern from felix's done in the 1930's. be sure to have a look at the ceiling the next time you are there.

although the wi-fi may be spotty at times, i find that my default here is to grab one of the many books on coffee from the public bookshelf and have a nice read while enjoying my coffee.

excellent coffee, with niche methods, including cold brews, siphons, chemex, and other brewing novelties. attached to the back side of uchi, sharing a bathroom and everything. small, limited seating, and if it's not early in the morning, difficult parking as uchi's baskets bakery valet and general parking congestion on the block make parking out front impossible. worth the walk, regardless.

nice cozy cafe in the heart of montrose but definitely not the best in the area.

this is a great place to catch up with old friends or have a nice and quiet coffee date. the ambiance is extremely mellow and relaxing. the flickering lights add a old-school charm to the place while soothing music plays in the background. the baristas here are knowledgeable, polite, and very welcoming to everyone from "coffee experts" to novices. the patio is quaint and kept clean at all times and is the perfect spot to watch people stroll by.

there are two reasons this isn't a 5 star coffee shop for me, parking and wi-fi. anyone familiar with montrose knows that parking can be a headache if you 're not familiar with the backstreets. this place is no different. the only "real parking" available is valet parking shared with the adjacent businesses. southside espresso does have about 3 or 4 spots reserved for its tenants but they've always been filled during my visits. either way, this is not a huge deal to me and only bumps down the rating about 1/2 a star. however, wi-fi is non-excusable in my book! every good cafe needs to have an excellent connection to get any work done. southside espresso suffers from spotty wi-fi that would constantly lag and occasional boot me off their network even though there were only 2 other customers there. unacceptable! fix this issue and i will definitely make this one of my regular spots.

this little hidden gem is awesome. super small but you walk in and it has such a good vibe. the baristas are super nice and offer a good selection. also interesting enough a friend from home his beer sells there (parisian ales) on tap! they have sweets and a cute little side patio. the parking is easy and they are quick with service.

southside espresso is tops on my coffee list. always good vibes, great coffee l, & exceptional customer service. it's more community oriented than most popular shops.

a true coffee "brewtique"!. i am by no means a coffee connoisseur but i'm starting to understand the difference between a standard cup of coffee and a good café latte. and southside espresso is by all means the latter.

quite possibly the best location for a coffee shop in a hustling part of h-town, this joint has it all covered. they are intricately educated in everything coffee related. they have good wifi. they have outdoor seating and indoor with enough power outlets. and probably the best coffee in houston.

i expect a lot from a specialty coffee shop, especially if they are winners of the "gayest and greatest" award. but when i was informed that their espresso machine is all hand - built and italian made: all i need to know. and once u see the level of precision each barista takes in his/her process of making such works of art, you know your money was well spent.

why would anyone pay more money for mediocre coffee with terribly slow wifi and surround yourself with yuppy wannabes at a starbucks is beyond me.

in short: they make truly amazing coffee drinks. just go see for yourself. if you're not tongue - kissing your barista within five minutes, i will make out with snookie.

needless to say, my experiences at southside have been awesome. i plan to continue my new favorite tradition of hopping over to southside every week to try something different. i’ll see you there!

good stuff. heard this place was a good study spot. the interior is sparsely decorated, but the local art gives a nice touch. they were also playing explosions in the sky kind of music--a plus for me. i tried a guatemalan chemex for something different, bc i'd never tried chemex. it was delicious!

for studying, the tables are kinda small. if you have more than a few books, e.g. doing a research project, a table can get kinda cramped. i turned mine sideways and got way more room. but if you sit on the benches you can put it to the side and make it work. it is straight wood, so you might find that uncomfortable.

all in all, a very good spot for some good coffee and some limited studying.
