soulman's is the best bbq in north texas. the portions are generous and the selections of sides to choose from...well, there are so many it's hard to choose! the ribs are the best i have had anywhere, topped only by county line in austin. they were meaty and very juicy not to mention seasoned perfectly so very flavorful. the brisket is cut to order, so depending on of you like drier brisket or the fattier juicy slices, you can get it however you prefer. my favorite thing is the bbq sauce. it is not too thick, and has a sweet but smokey flavor that perfectly compliments the meats. great value, tender juicy meat, friendly staff, big portions, delicious food...this place has it all! highly recommend!!

sides and desserts were amazing, staff was friendly, but the bbq was terrible! the meat tasted baked instead of smoked, and the sauce was watery, like bbq soup!

in new jersey, this would be decent bbq. but texas is the cradle of modern bbq and the worlds epicenter for good brisket. brisket was dry and tough. tea tasted like lake water. really.

awful. hello-
my family and i ate at your rockwall, tx location last night for dinner. dinner was not enjoyable to say the least, the restaurant only has two high chairs and they were both in use, so i had to hold my 1 year old son through out dinner and my 2 year old daughter had to sit in a booster seat, ordinarily that would not be a problem, however since the only option was to sit in a booth the booster was not very secure, needless to say none of us were really able to eat our food. 

the food quality was another issue, my husband and i both got sausage and chopped beef, both of which were very dry and the mac and cheese was watery and the mashed potatoes were crusted over from sitting under the warmer for too long. i would have discussed this with the guys working last night, however they seemed very disinterested in our experience because no one even asked how things were when both my husband and i had to go to the counter.

bbq with not enough soul. but hey it taste good...the ribs were very meaty and tender....the brisket was dry....let me stop and explain the lead....the soul of texas bbq is the spices called "rub" and slow wood fired smoking that creates the famous red rind and brisket snot...that is where the fat is slowly caramelized into the rub...it is gooood ...and you do not need sauce...don't get me wrong...i like sauce...here they needed sauce to make it bbq to give it flavor...i think it is cooked in a gas smoker... still it was not bad...but anyone can throw ribs into an oven...another issue was the sides...they looked great but they were out...and the highschoolers who were intrusted with the operations were not at all concerned...try luling city market and understand soul/bbq....3 links of 5

parking lot full of truckers & pickup trucks. inside there were a couple of lawmen. cabbage had jalepenos. sandwich served without a bun is a " no see um". we felt back home after a 4 week road trip up east. great food!
