solstice wood fire cafe & bar

showed up at the peak of dinner rush mid-week but still were seated quickly. the pizzas were a nice balance of inventive for the adults and simple (meaning they'll eat it) for the kids. enjoyable cocktails were also a little different but well balanced. our nice server moved at the pace of each table, could see she didn't push the tables that weren't in any hurry but ready to move through those of us who don't have the luxury of time. waterfront park across the street is a great place for kids to burn off a little energy before heading back to home base.

great pizza and local draft beer. reasonable prices and high quality ingredients. i would eat here often if i lived in the area. service was prompt and friendly. if you don't like something they will fix it.

delicious pizza, specials and top notch service! solstice helped us gauge the right amount of food for our indecisive group of 11 family members visiting from all over the country. margarita and the special pizza (peaches, sausage and more), and the grilled cauliflower appetizer were excellent, as were the beers and the full size melissa & doug crayons for the kids and a borrowed hiking book to plan more of our weekend. right along the river by waterfront park, we'll be back again for sure!

fabulous! their bblb pizza - butternut squash, bacon, leeks & bleu cheese - was one of the best pizzas we've ever eaten. perfectly fired, the crust was smoky brown with a crisp bite, and the flavor combination of the roasted butternut and leeks was amazing. they were super busy when we visited, and yet we still receive attentive service and our food was delivered very promptly.

cozy yet lively. this place is so good!
this new location is within walking distance (roughly 3/4 mile) from downtown hood river, right on the waterfront. the atmosphere is very cozy (think wood fire oven) and lively (loud music, lots of families and loud convos). there was a long wait when we arrived, but the ladies up front were beyond friendly and offered us a cocktail while we waited to eat.
the pizzas are excellent. my only complaint was that it wasn't crispy enough, which i assume was because the place was packed and the cooks were trying to turn orders fast (i'd been to the solstice in white salmon several times and the pizzas were always sufficiently crispy). you've gotta go for the cherry girl pizza, it's simply the best.

gary r.. we made a reservation for 8 people a day in advance. when we arrived at our scheduled time, we were told that we would have to wait until the group at a particular table finished up and left. considering they hadn't even been served their dinner yet, it was evident we had a long wait ahead of us. that's just not cool! we packed it up and went elsewhere.

yakima pizza watermelon soup. the cold water melon soup was excellent. the only thing i would change is put less mint leaves in it and leave out the slice of prosciutto.

great food and service. this place feels like it should be in seattle or portland because of the atmosphere. this is my 2nd visit to the place. you have to try the cherry girl pizza made with our local washington state cherries. this time i had their fire roasted veggies they were crisp had good flavor and the peanut dipping sauce was excellent. i also had their clam chowder. the chowder was good but i have had better. the chowder was more like soup. however, it was loaded with clams. i also tried their mac and cheese. it was okay not something that i will order again.

the service was excellent.

rookie server. the pizza is very good, but definitely not the best in washington state. that title belongs to either serious pie or delancy's in seattle. the salads at solstice are also at least an "8." the problem we had was that our server was obviously a rookie. after a 20-minute wait for our salads, they arrived about two minutes before the pizzas. this is a funky-feeling, laid-back place with obviously talented cooks. on this occasion they were let down by the waitstaff.

great pizza and good beer selection. this is a very worn down rustic place, but that is part of the charm. the pizza is excellent and they try to get their ingredients from local sources. they have a great selection of local craft beer and some local wines

the food is amazing! local, organic even gluten free crust. local wines and beers are fantastic. i recommend this to anyone looking for great food at a great price.

wonderful place. we just happened upon this place while enjoying a scenic drive along highway 14. the service was excellent and the food was outstanding. i had the free range chicken panini with the moroccan stew and my wife had the meatloaf panini with winter vegetable soup and a salad. we each shared and every dish was fantastic.

great family place, a real find. we went out of our way to find this place and are glad we did. it is a family-run spot, with an emphasis on fresh local foods - as well as local wines and beers. the owners are very involved and welcoming - and the fresh morel mushroom (just-picked) pizza was divine. marvelous place.
