ranelagh

i was previously a happy patron of the venue before lockdown, subsequently a loyal patron during lockdown, supporting the business when they started offering takeaway pints.

however upon the government allowing outside dining again, i attempted to visit the venue at a time they were only allowing walk ins, only to be greeted by the deplorable manager who insisted that 1 person cannot visit the venue as they’re ‘not set up for that’.

despite attempts to state that i’m a 1 person household, i was greeted with rebuttals that there wasn’t any space, despite me witnessing about 6 people vacating the premises in front of me. i tried to challenge this and state the facts to which i was told ‘go find somewhere else’.

this is hardly the level of professionalism or commerce i would expect or hope for at a difficult time like this.

i implore people to think twice before visiting.

definitely the worst food experience in dublin.

thai curry - like from powder / really artificial taste. nothing similar to real curry.
burger of my wife was totaly burned. our complaint wasn't accepted and had to pay the full amount inspite the fact that i couldn't eat that meat.

i went with a group of about 10 work friends to celebrate a birthday. we were all spending a lot of money, but at one point the vodka and soda that i received had a very strong taste of gin. i sent it back immediately and the waitress returned 5minutes later with the same drink telling my that the bartender had tasted it and he said it was fine. i sent it back again telling her that i was unhappy with the drink, and the bartender came back with the same drink telling me that he had 'fresh' tastebuds and i didn't know any better because i had been drinking. since i was with my work friends i just said 'okay' but i am absolutely disgusted with him in particular (we also got food which was below average, but that didn't bother me until the bartender made me feel like an infant). he has left such a bad taste in my mouth (like his drinks), and all for the sake of making me a drink in a clean glass? i will not be going back.

i'm completely biased of smyths as it's where i met my husband. 😂😂 so even though it's only a pub it has a serious spot in my heart and i couldn't give it less than 5. but it is an amazing pub with a great atmosphere and consistent service. had sunday lunch here today. brian had the irish stew with brown bread. i just had a ham and tomato toasted sandwich with chips. did what they said on the tin. bill was 25 with 2 drinks as well.

we were here for a few drinks over the weekend - very chilled atmosphere ideal if you are looking for a sit down with drinks and chats with friends. very traditional pub, great on match days!

i haven't eaten in smyths but it's a great place for a pint any time you are in ranelagh.  plenty of space for large groups and a decent pint of guinness.  what more do you want?

pub grub which was ok, not exactly a gastropub but perfectly adequate to have a bowl of soup or a sandwich before a couple of drinks.  it’s a really nice bar with a good mix of people and they had sport on the tv which had a crowd watching the game, nice place for a sunday pint!

smyths on the main drag in ranelagh is a bustling, traditional-style pub that's been drawing the crowds for years. you'd be hard pressed to find a seat in here on a friday, and you're also very likely to bump into someone you know, which gives a relaxed, homely feel to the place. solid pints, one of the best beer gardens in dublin, tv's everywhere, what more could you ask for. great spot!
