food is fine but service is unacceptable. beware if you are lured to this place via groupon. we paid $10 for $15 worth of food at skyline restaurant, however, while redeeming i was told only $10 would be deducted from our total bill. even after i asked for clarification, i was again told the same thing. after i again apologetically asked the cashier to double check the promotion, we did finally receive the correct value of the groupon; however, not without the cashier becoming visibly angry and rude.

i don't know if the anger and over reaction were just defensiveness about the error and not understanding the promotion, or if it stemmed from being caught in outright dishonesty, but in any event we will not be returning. we have enjoyed the food and the dilapidated diner atmosphere at skyline restaurant in the past, but no food is worth exposing my family to behavior like that, especially in pdx where there are so many other as-good or better options.

great burgers, fries and classic shakes and great service! an icon for decades in the portland area. great place to stop on a summer day for lunch or dinner.

skyline is a classic burger spot for locals. it's very casual and kid friendly. the burgers are awesome, same with the milkshakes, and the menu has actually diversified since i was a kid. there's different options besides just burgers. the service is always happy and helpful.

best burger in portland. my husband, son and i went to skyline burgers for the first time tonight. there was a deal on sharing spree awhile back for $25 you got a target gift card and $50 to restaurant.com. i saw that skyline burgers was on the list of restaurants to choose from so i purchased 2 vouchers. i have to say that we were totally satisfied. we each had a burger and shared some fries and tater tots and we each got a milkshake. this place was awesome. it was a bit of a drive from where we live but totally worth it. so yummy!!

repulsive. when you walk in, there are two signs with the following message......"choose a clean table only." at first, i couldn't understand why two such signs would be necessary, but as we sauntered through the tiny diner, and took a seat, we realized that every table surrounding us was full of dirty dishes and garbage on the floor. with those conditions, we left because it made me wonder what was happening in the kitchen. this place has gone downhill.

they make milkshakes out of pie. that right there should convince you to make the drive up skyline and go check them out. but they also make really good sandwiches and burgers.

i've been there before with friends who live in the neighborhood and are regulars, the burgers are good, nothing to rave about but tasty.

today we went for the milkshakes and onion rings (which are way above average) - they have these pie milkshakes which are wonderful - i had coconut cream pie. it's served in a paper drink cup, loaded with whipped cream, nothing great with the presentation but yummy and different!

fun location and theme.. i'd guess everything comes out of a box, bag or frozen. no awards for fresh local ingredients or inspiration of cuisine. the food is average at best and you'd better have cash or an atm card.
shakes are tasty, burgers flattop grilled frozen patties and the chicken processed pieces out of a big industrial sized freezer bag.
enjoy the retro vibe and the fun staff, there walls have children's drawings and memorabilia, heck they decorate for the holidays, just about any holiday.
have fun and over look the fact the food isn't great.

i've been going to skyline for years but they seem to have forgotten what made them great. my burger was $9.95, my fries $1.25, and my cherry coke was $2.75. on top of all this you have the usual tip too. $16 for lunch at a burger joint is insane. i saw the owner has a new bmw 335 convertable. hmmm?

they care about thier customers! michelle, the owner of skyline, and her team have the quality of the food and the service they provide as the top priority. time and time again when i go to skyline this is obvious to me. great food and even better service will keep me coming back!

worth the drive out. this little gem is truly off the beaten portland path, accessible only to folks who utilize the cornell-lovejoy downtown shortcut. word of mouth is good but i had not yet eaten here -- until this week.

their good reputation is well-deserved. three words: unpretentious, friendly, delicious. being a vegi-pescetarian, i was pleasantly surprised at the wide seafood selection, plus a veggie burger. i had the salmon burger with fries and it was truly delightful. my friends say the beef hamburgers are good and i have to take their word for it.

the staff is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is classic american diner. i was quickly charmed and will take lovejoy-cornell more often just to eat here.

ps: cash only, no credit cards. but they do have an atm inside.

foodies around the world know the name james beard, one of the most acclaimed american chefs of all time, so it’s a little odd to see a browned-with-age newspaper clipping framed on the wall at skyline touting beard’s professed devotion for this tiny retr
