someone on the client team recommended sienna, and i am glad they did. it is a fairly large restaurant, nicely furnished; high ceilings, elegant table settings, comfortable chairs. while all the chairs were the same cream color, with high backs, and each table had a set of the same style chairs, their was a bit of variety around the dining room. some tables had straight-backed chairs, others were wing-backed. lots of large mirrors, making the large dining room look even larger. it was much less than half full for dinner on a tuesday, so getting a table was not a problem.
given the elegant surroundings, i was a bit concerned that the menu prices would be very high. i was pleasantly surprised that the prices seemed reasonably mid-level. salads started at $8 and entrées ranged from $19 to $36. they label themselves as modern american. based on the variety of choices there are definite influences from hawaii all the way to italy, and several places in between.
i started my meal with the sienna side salad. a nice fresh pile of mixed greens with a miso vinaigrette, with toasted pecans providing a bit of crunch for texture. on top was a two-bite crostini, with goat cheese and a small wedge of avocado, to give it a california twist.
for my main dish i chose the huli huli grilled chicken. this dish came with one chicken breast that perfectly cooked and packed with bright soy and ginger flavors. the bok choy was sautéed in the same sauce. the rice side had just enough sweet pineapple to balance some of the soy in the chicken. then there was the little drizzle of mint sauce around the edge of the plate that added another dimension to the rice.
service was very good. all in all, a very nice meal that exceeded my expectations.
