if it wasn't a cigar bar i'd go more often. honestly the side street burger is so delicious. i truly love it, even better than hueys. but since i truly hate smoke the only time i can get it is when i order and pick up or as soon as they open. their brunch is usually the best time for me because no one is really in there first thing sunday so i don't smell smoke when i leave.

compared to places like lenny's (whose philly cheesesteak sandwich is actually a hoagie), side street's version is the real deal despite the fact that it uses chopped meat instead of sliced.

i enjoyed everything about the restaurant. the only thing i thought was unprofessional was when the bartender came from behind the bar out to the patio to confront a customer about the things he, i guess he told his friends about her. very crappy. food was great! service was awesome. very inappropriate for her to do that in front if customers!

ladies nite. aiight so i went with my friends! woot for me.. it was a monday, one of the few bars open in midtown go figure.. the single barkeep/waiter was cordial and most helpful and timely..
the atmosphere was inviting and comfortable, the varieties of food were suitable for all pallets, and the drinks were strong enuf!

kudos to side street... me and mine will defiantly be back..

i attended a birthday dinner in the red room for a friend of a friend tonight. it seemed to take forever to place orders for drinks and food. initially, i wrote it off as the waitress being new, and it was crowded. after everyone paid, we got up to leave. as we were about to exit, our waitress yells a lady in our party's name, and grabbed her arm asking us both if we'd paid our bill. of course we had. i was alarmed about what had just taken place, but i just let it go and left. by the time we got to the sidewalk in front of the restaurant, the same brunette waitress that we could hardly get any service from confronted us again about a bill. with her arms crossed, she says, "there was a guy in your party that didn't pay. can you call him." other patrons were on the patio witnessing the horrific event. i explained her that i didn't know the guy, but i was certain he'd paid. by that time, a waiter came peeking out of the red room door make the "cut signal" to her. i guess, that's when she realized that the guy paid his tab. she walked away without offering any form of an apology. i can't tell you how foolish i felt, after i tipped her on top of the gratuity she got from our party. needless to say, i won't be back. the only reason i decided to come tonight was because i had a great experience before. boy was that a mistake!? it won't happen again.

typical memphis eatery. used to be a good place to congregate and eat. now it is just far too ghetto. thugs refusing to tip, always causing a scene, music is too loud. not my kind of place anymore. used to be. sad.

bad night. the special of the night was fish and chips, featuring a beer-battered red snapper and steak fries. looking for an easy but filling dish to satisfy before visiting the theatre, this seemed to fit the bill. lo and behold, after a 10 minute search, there was no malt vinegar to be had. i requested tartar sauce, as a close second choice, and was told the kitchen staff would make it on the spot. the entree arrived, larger than life, and drier than any desert has a right to be. the snapper was too delicate to be fried, therefore tough. the batter was not crisp nor seasoned. and the tartar sauce resembled liquified sour cream. if this is the featured entree of the night, more forethought should have gone into it. luckily, our night was redeemed by a comical and uplifting play. cheers!

smoky but good. my girlfriend and i went to side street last night and when we walked in, i almost wanted to leave because we walked into a cloud of smoke. it's just something i'm not used to anymore but we settled and i'm glad we did. my burger was outstanding. she got a salmon sandwich that was really unique and good. our waitress was great, too. overall, i was impressed, but would be a regular if i didn't have to wash my clothes the moment i got home.
