one of the best part about my hawaii trip is all the yummy food i ate. my boyfriend and i hit up a lot of places that were highly rated on blogs and urbanspoon so today i wanted to share with you some of the things we ate. if you are ever planning a visit to hawaii, i hope you find this post helpful. and if you aren't planning to visit anytime soon,  just sit back and feast your eyes....

diverse. neat place to find a wide selection of pre-prepared take out food. there are loads of restaurants in a small place - everything from curry to frozen yogurt with spam masubi lunch boxes and $1 beer. fun to just look around at all the different things - i got bitter melon pickles and ahi poke, and both were delicious. if you're expecting something fancy, you'll be disappointed, but it was great for a quick unique meal :)

i love this place! where else can you get the best japanese food all under one roof.


you can get rice dishes, ramen, udon, desserts and more. it's like a foodie's heaven once you walk in. i tell everyone who visits to come by here for sure!!!!!

the concept here is great, set up like a typical hawkers market with fresh produce take away and a selection of street outlets serving affordable fair. we sadly didn't choose well but worth a visit

delicious & fun, it's hard to find a great food experience and a decent price but this place is amazing. it's a food court style where you can walk around and get and get sushi, ramen, bubble tea, goyza, and udon all from different counters. can be a bit over whelming but it is worth the time for check everything out and pick your places carefully. we settled on sushi, had a delicious ahi poke! would love to go again

i absolutely love coming to this place. after moving and missing my favorite markets shirokiya offers a joy to my heart as well as my stomach. i go every time i'm at the mall. the food is lined up nicely with many varieties. wonderful!

when in honolulu, a must try!. best food court i've been to because everything is affordable, authentic and delicious! i'm glad my sister told me to visit shirokiya otherwise we may not have stumbled over it. i had the seafood don in the corner stall next to the takoyaki stand and the sashimi was so fresh and delicious and beautifully cut. and just for $14! only wish we had one in australia!

...overwhelming upon entering due to the sheer volume of offerings. sushi, cooked fish and meats, tonkatsu, ramen, desserts… the list goes on and on. clearly enough to satisfy almost any appetite. take your time and look around before you pick up anything because you’re likely to see a dozen things you’ll want to eat for lunch or dinner. i ended up with three items. a decent poke, a sweet and flakey miso butterfish, and freshly fried mochiko chicken. prices were more than reasonable but can add up fast when you’re walking around and picking up half a dozen things.

great variety and $2.00 sapporos! hidden gem at the mall - skip the regular food court and come here! sushi, bento boxes, noodles, tempura, gyozas - they have it all! cheap prices too.

i had no idea that shirokiya was a department store with the most awesome food court on the 2nd level. most awesome = twenty something different vendors serving mostly japanese food = peaches’ dream food court.

great variety and prices. i read through all the reviews on this restaurant and only one was negative and it seemed obvious from reading the review that the reviewer was not familiar with japanese food. apparently he felt it took too long to see all the offerings and read the descriptions of the food. hello! this is a japanese department store and it's a japanese food court. what did you expect?

in fact, all the different restaurants and variety of food is great, in my opinion. i've lived in japan and this was like walking back in time. i walked the entire food court to see what was available before making my decision on what to order. there is something for everyone - ramen, udon, barbecue. bentos, you name it. the food is very reasonably priced and everything we had tasted great. and the $1 beers can't be beat. this is one of the best food values for the money in honolulu.

a surprising place to find great asian food in honolulu is at ala moana mall, in the food court of the large japanese store shirokiya. there are so many options that mikayla and i walked around in circles for almost half an hour this winter when we were back in hawaii.

i tried the mochi and chichidango from the random stand by the cafe. it's reasonably priced and the quality is good. both products were super soft, especially the chichidango. the peanut butter mochi was a new experience for me, and i was surprised by the slice of banana in the middle! the pineapple mochi is one of their best sellers, and it actually has real chunks of pineapple throughout the bean filling. the other popular flavour is pear. chichidango is pretty much rectangular pieces of extremely soft mochi. they sell small boxes of mixed flavours for about $4.

...features one of the most impressive displays of what a food court should be. it is not exclusively veg*n, but trust me, if you can’t find something to eat here – you’re just being difficult! if you enter the store from the mall level, you can peruse the baked goods from st. germain bakery. stroll by the kiosks to sample waffle donuts or manju if you’re feeling adventurous.
