schooners monterey

much improved from duck club!. the food was awesome at sck! we were seated at a table by the window. for my starter i enjoyed the fresh sushi which was beautifully presented. we shared the fillet which is pricey @ $44 but oh, so delicious and it was just enough for sharing. attentive service and delicious dessert which was complimentary for my birthday. the food quality is much improved from the duck club and the booths are gorgeous. every table has a view here. a new hot spot and lovely addition to the monterey dining scene! :)

we went here fir our 16th anniversary. the food was good, service was great, but the only negative was our seating arrangement. we were seated in a dark corner and my view was off the back ledge of the restaurant where the birds would leave their droppings.

fantastic. the food was prepared absolutely perfectly and the view was incredible. i may never eat calamari again after having their amazing charred octopus. we split the cast a net for two, which had oysters rockefeller, king crab legs, ahi tuna (in place of the swordfish, which they were out of - which is understandable for a place with all fresh seafood) and their amazing angry prawns along with two sides. the seafood was so fresh and sweet, we went with a bottle of roar chardonnay, which couldn't have paired better. the baked alaska dessert was perfect to top it all off.

now if you don't go to schooners while you're in monterey then you're missing out on an absolutely beautiful gem. i had made reservations and took my fiancé there for his birthday and it was phenomenal! upon arrival we were given two glasses of champagne (if you stay in the monterey plaza you can take any unfinished drink up to your room afterwards) and then given a dessert with a candle for his birthday. the staff was just incredible. it wasn't just our server that was so great, it was the young servers and the main server (was amazing!). the manager of the restaurant checked in on each of the customers and made sure everyone was happy. multiple servers asked how we like everything throughout the night. onto the food.. my fiancé and i love fine dinning, and were from seattle where great restaurants are abundant and schooners food was just amazing. i had the crab crusted sal, fantastic. the risotto was just made to perfection! not only was the food and staff phenomenal, the view (inside and out) was incredible. overall this restaurant deserves a true honest 10, they deserve it. thank you again for taking such great care of us schooners! you're so absolutely amazing!!

so incredibly amazed with the meal we had here! one of the best seafood stews i've had! they had absolutely incredible desserts as well - the carrot cake in a jar and the butterscotch banana pudding, do noooot leave here without trying at least one of them! great service as well!

cioppino!. wow! i have never had cioppino so i don't have anything to compare it to but it was amazing! the broth i wanted to bathe in and i actually ordered extra clams so i could dunk them. the view was great we were right on the water and service was great as well. i wouldn't bring my kids so unfortunately i can't go back this trip but next time we're here it's my first visit.

great views, very good food - had the pairing and it was great. our server, alex, was outstanding. moved us to a better view without being asked, had really good advice on local hikes (point lobos).

attentive staff. went for drinks and dessert. coffee was luke warm, but was brought hot fresh cup when pointed this out. brownie was yummy and huge! staff was there to provide great service. would return and recommend to friends.
not cheap but you get what you pay for: )

schooner’s occupies some prime real estate on the main drag of monterey. their patio is second to none in the area, on stilts overlooking the water. however, they seem to be coasting on that view rather than the food itself. service was alright, but food was mediocre. i’d still say it’s worth a stop for the patio alone, just make sure to manage your expectations, and you’ll likely have a pleasant experience.

had an amazing lunch there. try the saw bass tacos. so good!!!

one of the best seaside restaurants both for ocean views and the bounty of the sea is schooners coastal kitchen & bar, at the only forbes four-star-awarded monterrey plaza hotel & spa. schooners is perched dramatically over the monterey bay where diners will enjoy the gentle sounds of the undulating surf; the fresh, salty fragrance of sea air; the playfulness of sea otters drifting in kelp forests and a mediterranean ambiance accompanied by personalized service. the views and the experience are unparalleled. so, too, is an innovative menu that showcases a variety of seafood–both raw and cooked.

the chowder was pretty good. the fish tacos were the worst i have ever had. seriously, do them right or take them off the menu.

terrific seaside bar and grill. i had several dinners at this restaurant during my stay at the monterey plaza. they were wonderful. like the hotel, my table was right on the ocean, overlooking the monterey bay. it was a wonderful view. the service was very attentive and friendly. one evening i had a drink whose name escapes me, but is was great. it was a concoction of coconut rum, pineapple rum, and some other type of fruit-flavored rum. man, was it good. i also ordered their artichoke, tomato bisque soup. it was fantastic. i can't recommend this place too highly. i guarantee you will have a fantastic experience here.

really nice. this is one of two restaurants in the monterey plaze hotel, and the only one open for lunch, which is what we stopped in for on our way out of town.

inside seemed nice enough, but we sat outside to savor every last drop of fresh air and view on our vacation. service was fantastic from everyone: hostess, server, food runner, bussers. had the fish tacos which were great and tuna blt which had an amazing dill sauce on it. would definitely go back if ever in town again.

lydia was one of the most gracious and engaging waitresses we have ever had at a bar. also, the roatsted castroville baby artichoke was outstanding, and the island paradise cocktail was very nice. we will definitely return.
