the gryphon d’or tearoom has been serving great comfort food for approximately twenty-one years on monkland avenue in the borough of notre dame de grace. they are known for having some of the best scones in montreal. but it does not stop here, the small yet cozy quaint tearoom, also now serves late breakfasts and brunch, lunch and take-out. it is the perfect place for a quiet break, fantastic homemade meals or a just a pot of tea with friends and family.

very interesting small family ran eatery. so everybody is busy in kitchen and serving customers at table at same time. after waiting for a couple of minutes, their main chef came out to greet me. dining room is small, if you did't reserve a table, you might need wait. i decided to pay a visit after seeing all the positive reviews in the app. but i'm disappointed that their weekend menu is very restricted, first they told me, they only serve tea and scones during weekends, so i can not order many meals and food that's available during week days. so when i saw some fancy combo of sandwich and deserts served on a multi-level plates at my neighboring table, i asked to order that, again, they told me i can not because that's for reservation only. that leave me only 3 choice of scone combo meals, so i ordered the lentil soup combo with cardamon tea and a desert. the soup, tea, and the scone was ok, nothing special, so i don't understand all the fuss about its scones in some of the previous reviews here. i actually liked the desert called "sweet queen" which is made of hot oatmeal with some fruit wedges topped with cream and cinnamon spices. at the end, the chef bring me some bonus butter cookies which i liked too. so i think their specialties might be their home made deserts. overall i'm ok with the meal, but i think it's a bit overrated in the app, they seem to be just happy catering for their loyal frequent customers, so if you are a first time visitor like me, you might feel left in the cold and like a second class customer, looking at their frequent customers consuming all the fancy stuff, but was told you can not order yourself.

this place is honestly one of my favourites in montreal. not only are they the best scones in town, they also have amazing stews, desserts and tea. a tiny hole-in-the-wall place, gryphon d'or has all the quaint charm of the cafés of yesteryear. there are board games and they are starting activities on saturday nights (like group knitting, and i am so there). the food is what my momma would make of she were a better cook. the service is absolutely exceptional. the owner, donna, knows everyone's name, presumably by magic. go here! order a hot butterscotch (trust me).

5.0 for the best scone in montreal!!! :3 (in my humble opinion).
i've tried their afternoon tea set (twice , with and without desserts). still, what impresses me the most is the wonderfulness of its scones.

my friends said that their lunch options are very good as well, (i.e. the meat loaf burger would be one of the names that popped up, if i recall correctly)

so that would be what i look forward to the next time i visit there!

i live around ndg, so i often visit monkland for a coffee, a trip to lucille's oyster dive, or for some froyo. this time, i ventured onto one of my favourite avenues for an afternoon tea at the cozy gryphon d'or tea room with some of my favourite girls! gryphon d'or tea room is quaint and homey. take a seat on a wooden bench and ask to look through their selection of loose-leaf teas. decide whether you will have a full afternoon tea served with scones, sandwiches, a pot of tea and desserts, or just a dessert tea, which is served with scones, a pot of tea, and desserts. you could also choose to order brunch, dessert, or any of their daily specials on their own. loose-leaf teas we arrived later in the day and had already eaten lunch, so we decided to go with the dessert tea. first, a basket of warm scones arrived with butter, lemon curd, homemade jam, and heavy cream. i could have eaten the entire basket myself. my pot of vanilla-orange tea went perfectly with the citrusy lemon curd. next, a two-tiered display of desserts was set down in front of us. slightly unsure of how to tackle this extensive dessert tray, we decided just to dig in. there were assorted tea squares, shortbread cookies, chocolate mocha cake, strawberry shortcake, and mini apple crumbles. vanilla-orange loose-leaf tea scones with lemon curd, cream, butter, and homemade jam desserts everything was delicious and i could not think of a better way to spend my sunday afternoon than by sipping on warm tea, enjoying freshly baked desserts, and catching up with friends. not to mention, the ent

great service, good food. the gryphon d'or is a quite small restaurant and very narrow, it kind of looks like someone's home. but the staff is very welcoming and attentive. i had the afternoon tea menu with some friends and it was pretty good. the scones with cream and their jam is delicious. the sandwiches were egg salad and cucumber, it was a bit ordinary, like something you could just make yourself for lunch at work. the desserts were delicious, but 2 of them were a bit too similar to the scone's toppings (cream, jam and lemon curd).

because of the size of the restaurant, you should really call and reserve your table in advance. while we were there, we saw a few people turned away.

coming home. the atmosphere at gryphon d'or is very welcoming. donna is kind and funny with an incredible deadpan humour. the soups are fantastic and you can always take some home as they keep a wide variety of their homemade soups on hand. my favorite is the gryphon d'or burger served on a scone. it is absolutely delicious. the most comforting restaurant with comfort food.

the moment you walk through the door you feel a welcome energy. this unpretentious gem in the heart of the monkland village offers one if not the best brunches in town. we were greeted by kyla who sets the warm ambience of this culinary experience. as my companions and i ordered donna the owner/ brunch chef engaged us and made several suggestions. the top pick for brunch for 3/4 of us was the rarebit benedict. served on an english scone, we were served 2 perfectly poached eggs with your choice of grilled vegetables or bacon. served o the dish was potatoes, fruit and home made apple crumbled in home made phyllo dough. the piece de resistance was the home made hollandaise that is made with beer and rarebit cheddar. this was so good i asked for more for the table to sop up what little we had left on our plates. they are very accommodating and will work around your preference which is rare in this day and age. after our meal, donna offered us more scones with home made lemon curd, caramel and marmalade . simply deliscious. we will be back again and again as this will be our regular haunt for weekend brunches. my only issue is that when this catches on, we will have to start waiting in line to get in. 6 out of 5 stars!

best place. the food, service and atmosphere are amazing. it is a tiny gem lovingly cared for by donna -the owner. her food and service are tremendous. the mac n'cheese, omelettes, scones, desserts are divine. everything is ime made, fresh and so tasty. i am only reluctant to review it because i don't want it to get so busy there is no room for me. don't miss out.

amazing. and it was only brunch. the service was special and so was the food. i had
french toast stuffed with lemon crème. yum!! went with my daughter and she
had an omelet and loved it. i didn't want to write a review as i am afraid that the restaurant will become too popular. keep up the good work gryphon d'or!!

sunday brunch. we went for sunday brunch with our infant. the place was crowded but the women were really nice to allow us to leave our son in his jogger stroller since they didn't have a high chair. i ordered the stuffed french toast, which was thick, creamy and full of strawberries. my husband ordered the eggs benedict and he didn't offer a bite, so i had to offer to taste my dish two times so that that tells you he wanted all to himself. the server/cook was helpful explaining how the place is set up (self-service coffee) and took the time to describe menu items and brewed me a cup of decafe since it was not available at the coffee station. the home potatoes were what i strive to make at home and so glad they didn't deep fry them like fries. so many places do that here and i don't know why because if i wanted deep fried potatoes i would order french fries. the juice was probably the only shortcut i could see. i am not a fan of mixed fruit drinks.... orange, banana, mango, pineapple type of thing. if they can find a great orange juice to pair with their meal, golden! the price was a little more than what i like to spend for breakfast but well worth it. we left happy with our experience and hope to go back soon. thank you.
