when "outstanding" falls short!!. saturday 25jun11

this restaurant is a crown jewel, and always is worth the 45 minute drive. i am so pleased with it all. our waiter "dustin" was perfect as well as our bus boy. when we told the manager how good they were, he knew. they had been trained there.
my wife and i both had redfish, and shared crab claws and calamari. wonderful. lots of hot crusty bread throughout. even the dinner salad served with viniagrette and a
bowl of blue cheese and another of croutons was excellent. the cocktails are fairly priced and very good. the food was delicious with huge portions. we must be getting old, because we brought home about a third of the food. the current location is much more comfortable, even romantic. try it, you'll love it !!

very impressed. we went to this restaurant based on multiple recommendations from friends, and we were not disappointed. the flavor of single dish was absolutely fantastic. the portion size was gigantic, so bring your appetite. i eat more than anyone i have personally met, and i was getting winded. lol

the dining atmosphere is also superb. they bring out real butter and blue cheese in decorative cups, literally filled to the top. it's a shame to waste that much because we only took a normal swipe or two off the top.

just a great restaurant.

maybe it's me...but. hubby and i ate there last night. all breads and salads were excellent and plentiful. my entree was a stuffed pork and ham dish and husband had a redfish concoction. he said his was very good, but mine, although a lot of it, was just not for me. if you don't like sour, don't get this. the big plate of pasta with red sauce with it was ok.
the wait staff was attentive. i may go back, but will order something different.

perfect. every appetizer is amazing, be it the crab claws, capaletti, stuffed artichoke, canneloni, calamari, etc.. the pane veal is the best i've ever had. i have never had a bad or even mediocre meal here and we have been coming weekly for 20+ years. thank you sal, keep up the awesome work and we will keep driving to lacombe!!

it was good. whatever appetizer we had rocked our mouths with flavor. my meal/entree was decent but basically spaghetti with some special meat rolls. my wifes meal was exceptional and i think that when i go back i will not try the traditional italian dishes but will veer from them as i liked hers better!!! two thumbs up and worth the price wait and th reservation which you have to call for!!!

basically impastato's on the north shore. which means fantastic. the setting is a little more high end with the loss of the saints stuff. but the menu is very similar and the pasta just as excellent. if this place were uptown, people would rave about it as the best italian restaurant in america. but it's in lacombe so only long time locals know about it. and they hide it.

love sal & judy's. we have been going to sal & judy's since the mid '70s when they first opened. the food is sooo good and the prices aren't much more than thay were back then. if there's something you like, but don't see it on the menu - ask for it. if sal has the ingredients, he'll make it. i love shrimp scampi and it's rarely on the menu, but sal makes it for me. the green beans are to kill for, no kidding. they also have great prime rib. i agree with the review about his sauces that he puts on fish or veal - really good.

the only place to eat italian. my family has been going here for italian as long as i can remember. in my opinion it is the only spot to eat italian worth paying for (and the prices are not even close to expensive). the portions are completely generous and the food is quite simply amazing! order anything off the menu and you cant go wrong. fyi the veal parmesan is the best but its not on the menu.

best on northshore. as a lifelong resident of the northshore, i can say with complete conviction that this is the best food on the northshore. i actually like it better than any place in all of new orleans. my entire family feels this way. we have been eating here for 20 years and the quality has never faltered. though their italian food with traditional red sauce is very good, the most amazing dishes are those with the cream sauces. they don't advertise some of their sauces, but if you ask for one (i believe the most popular is called nicolas sauce), they will top your veal or trout with it. it has mushrooms, shrimp, and lump crabmeat and is the best sauce i've ever eaten. they do not skimp on the crabmeat and shrimp, either. you have to specifically request this sauce, though! i highly recommend the marinated crab claws as an appetizer-- a huge portion of claws covered with a delicious cream sauce. if you try these items, i can't imagine you'd be disappointed!

it really is that good. i'm often tempted to not like it because it is so hard to get a table... but it really is excellent. having been a dozen or so times, i can honestly say that every meal was better than almost any other place on the ns.

a reservation is a must. great wine selection. always ask for the specials and expect to be there a while as there in no hurry to create perfection.
