4 of us had been here - a rather ok place. cuisine is south african and its all you can eat buffet. however, there was hardly anyone to tell us which dish is what, what is it made up of etc. 3 of us were pure vegetarian and though i eat non veg - i dont eat beef or pork. it was rather difficult to make out which dish was what - so i stuck to vegetarian food. the veggies has a nice taste to it - not too spicy and not too bland. also - the charges are definitely at 250 zar per person - the buffet is at 200 zar per person.

the 3 rating is for what turned up to be a great day. it should have been a 2. we arrived just before evening fell. noone attended to us. we were met by 3 ladies at the door who did not acknowledge our presence. instead they stood there talking.

we resorted to waiting for one of the tables to be free and took up the freed space. after several minutes of waiting we approached someone to help, the one guy said he was tired and the other was not bothered.

luckily, bheki came to the rescue and he saved the day. bheki was attentive and efficient.

we had the wings and chips. it was tasteless.

the vibe is great though. go there for drinks and a good jol. fun was had even after our initial disappointment.

sakhumzi came highly recommended by friends and family. it’s been a while since i’ve been to soweto and was looking really forward to going.

we arrived on a wet and cold day but we had shelter in the tent. sad thing though is that i personally called during the week and it seems like they never reserved our tables. as we arrived we came across unorganized chaos and the waitress trying to squeeze in an extra table in a place not big enough. so there we are making a bit of a spectacle of ourselves.

then a very pretty lady approached us trying to sell us some special vodka at r850 per bottle- we quickly made it clear that we are south africans and not tourist and i’ve never ever paid r850 for a bottle of vodka.

we were set for the buffet and after receiving our first drinks we headed off for some food. the choices were slim, tripe, chicken, sausage and beef stew for protein. samp, pap something resembling polenta as a side dish. some salad and oh yes there was some form of a soup as well.

the tripe looked unappealing and grey but i ate it and had good flavor and was seasoned well. the chicken was cooked to perfection. but i liked the beef dish the best alas i did not dish up enough of it. the side dishes accompanied the rest of the proteins very well.

i had no salad for it looked unappealing and very basic.

i had some soup - not sure if you supposed to stand a spoon in it? saying that it was still very pleasant and tasty.

apparently the ice cream is awesome but the malva pudding was bland and dry.

we had great service and friendly staff. the drinks are mediocre with limited choices but enough to keep everyone happy. cocktails seems to be flying off the shelves.

i would love to return for the great vibe, but i think i’ve sampled all of their fare.

ps: i love a good vibe but having to shout in order to have a conversation is not my way of having fun.

we had the buffet. and i thoroughly ennjoyed everything they had. the dombolo and tripe were delicious, i had three servings! they also had a really delicious array of other dished including but not limited to beef stew, roasted chicken, rice, pap and various salads. their desert menu is limited. they had jelly, ice cream, custard and malva pudding. the view of vilakazi street from the outdoor seeting is great. i would definetly go there again for their tripe and dombolo.

half the menu is unavailable anymore.
it's just the buffet that's available the menu was nice yet half the items on it are not available anymore.

truely disappointing!

hope the sort this out as i always enjoyed coming here but doubt i will again!!!

my partner and i are big eaters hence why we ordered the platter for 4 for just us 2. the waiter was prompt with our order but disappeared when we wanted to wrap up our food to go home as the flies were getting too much to handle. food was delicious but the price was a little high, assumed that was because of the attraction behind the location. our daughter (7yrs) had the chicken n chips, came to be 3 pieces of chicken n a large portion of chips. so their portion sizes were filling and would go again given the chance

you cant go to soweto without trying sakhumzi so i've been told, so finally gave the place a try and i'm so glad i did, their african cuisine is simply delicious. what stood out the most for me was their cocktails had the oceans eleven and it was so refreshing.  their service could be better.

a pleasant visit to soweto towers bungee and scad jump led us to vilakazi street's sakhumzi restaurant to feast on some traditionally prepared south african food while sipping on some blue label zamalek.
the restaurant is perfectly situated on vilakazi street to get a tourist experience in your own country.
it was relatively easy to get a table and staff very welcoming however were told only the buffet service was in operation. a bit pricey but then again it is a tourist spot so nonetheless went for the experience. the buffet had a good spread of meat; beef, chicken, lamb chops and wors accompanied by traditional starches; pap, samp and rice as well couscous. taste was pretty average and would have much preferred the choice on the menu.
nice spot to chill out by the benches on a hot summers day with friends while sipping on an ice cold frosty.
