the menu boasts an intriguing list of small plates, born in the south and infused with mediterranean accents. unfamiliar ingredients such as urfa biber (dried turkish chili pepper) and jimmy nardello (sweet pepper) give us pause. they enhance dishes such as crostini with smoked trout, and green wheat with green tomatoes and medjool dates. green wheat does not initially grab our attention, but our waitress encourages us to give the grain-based dish a try. we thank her for steering us towards this full-flavored inventive dish.

as we pulled up to rolf and daughters, an oasis of coolness in a warehouse section of germantown, it was evident from the string lights, the graffitied walls and the vibe coming from the outdoor patio that tonight was going to be good, memorable even.   arriving a little early for our reservation, we sat at the bar for a cocktail while taking in the scene.  immediately it was clear that the bartender was a pro; she bantered with her colleagues, mixed craft cocktails and shared her depth of knowledge about food and drink all with easy comfort.  she guided us, based on our likes, to a montaña verde which included espolon blanco tequila, genepy des alpes, grapefruit, cilantro, jalapeno and lime.  the drink, not only beautiful, was tangy and sweet with a perfect kick from the pepper.  the wingman was a blend of four roses single barrel bourbon, dolin dry, peychaud’s bi

...rolf and daughters has been written up extensively, so it was understandably busy. we were told that it’d be an hour wait, but fortunately, it was much shorter, and we got to hang out with drinks outside for a bit. the restaurant is located in an old warehouse, which was cool. what we ate

last night i got to try out rolf and daughters , a restaurant that’s been on my must-visit list for quite some time! rolf and daughters (which cleverly goes by rad), has a pretty neat space. intimate, rustic, and casually cool.

fabulous!. last minute trip to nashville to visit son in college, tried to get a reservation the week before, but knew it was unlikely. very helpful girl on the 'phone told me they have communal tables that are first come first seated (the bar is too). we waited about an hour for our table. husband wanted to go elsewhere, i made him wait. cocktails were delicious.

the hostesses had been very friendly and the waitress was friendly enough, she seemed a bit overwhelmed. steak tartare appetiser was delicious, i thought the salsa verde was a strange choice to go with it but it worked. squid ink pasta with shrimp and lemon was absolutely wonderful, perfectly seasoned. husband had the pasta verde with pork ragu which was very good - he thought he won (he didn't). son very much enjoyed the roast pork, portions were way too small for his liking but then he's a 19 year old with the appetite of a small horse. desserts were great, the bombolini were a big hit - warm, crispy sugary pillows of yumminess. the panacotta wasn't really, it jiggled okay but the consistency was too soft, more like a creme brulee without the brulee.

pet peeve... husband and son finished their main course before i did and the waitress cleared their plates, asked about dessert and delivered the dessert menu before i had finished - super tacky and very rude, her actions made me feel as though they really wanted us out of there pdq. she did the same thing to the group of 3 sitting beside us. i know a lot of people don't like to sit with an empty plate in front of them (i'm one of those) but if someone in my party is still eating i can wait.

we'll definitely go back (but maybe have a reservation next time).

i first heard of rolf and daughters when i came across an instagram picture of the pastas, posted by a food editor at bon appetit magazine. upon further research, i found that not only did this place earn a spot on bon appetit's list of 50 best restaurants of 2013, but also that almost every single item on the menu had an interesting twist to it.

insulting. i felt as if somebody came up to me and stole 60 dollars out of my wallet after dining here with my girlfriend. the food was lackluster at best and the waitress completely ignored us despite us being very polite to her. never got refills on our drinks or even saw her until she came to get the check . she also got part of our order wrong and never corrected it, yet still tried to charge us for it. if you want to get rid of a lot of cash and get nothing in return , save yourself some time and just set it on fire.

outstanding. the squid is out of this world. tartare was good and lamb meatballs were lean but pretty tastey. stick with the pasta dishes. will definately be back to try the rest of the pastas.

what a wonder place. a relaxed casual environment. the menu was built on locally grown in season food. the food was unique and delicious. we enjoyed the food, environment, and service. this place is out of the way but well worth the effort. my wife was so pleased with the meal she walked into the kitchen to thank the chef/owner

fabulous bread and butter, nice local beer selection. i had fun with the seasonal radish plate and enjoyed the chicken and meatballs. it was a lot of fun to sit at the communal table in a hip atmosphere.

what i love about this place is that they are warm and laid-back – you will not find pretension here, only well thought-out dishes, perfect portion sizes, and an organic ambiance. while generally i am not a huge fan of “community tables”, you always have the bar and now rolf and daughters takes reservations, which is awesome. the food is spot-on and the beverages amazing.

i feel like a terrible food blogger.  rolf and daughters  had been on my must-go list for what felt like an eternity but i just finally made my way around to it last week. this is totally 100% my fault due to poor planning and begging for last minute reservations. but my last minute perseverance finally paid off last week with a table for two at a reasonable dinner hour! located in germantown, rolf and daughters is charming and beautiful. they have a romantic outside patio lit by fairy string lights. inside, it's dark and filled with lovely handcrafted wood pieces. the ceiling was even covered in wood planks. for a small place, they do seem to be able to fit a good amount of diners at once. i did think that the noise level was a bit loud, so it might not be a great place to take your parents (if they're the type who love to complain about noise) or someone who is hard of hearing. of course we started off with cocktails! i chose the colony collapse which consisted of bourbon, honey liqu

speaking as a rich nashvillian i give this restaurant 4 stars for the food and kudos to the hostess and service. only complaint is the family style seating. but the innovation in the kitchen is something to experience!
