love the bread!. we ate dinner in the bar & the bread that come with the meal is outta this world! the real butter patties were not cold and hard. score!! service is friendly and prompt.
the menu is rather pricey, if you like pasta fare you'll love it here. i had the seafood fra diavolo. @ $19.00 ala carte. marinated calamari, rock shrimp, pancetta, garlic, mint, calabrian chiles, red sauce, linguine. also tried the calamari, it could of been cooked a little longer but was very good.
i would eat here again, the lunch menu looks a little more in my price range and closer to my kind of food on the fly.
if your staying in the hotel they will give you vouchers for the restaurant. check it out!

the salmon was king!. i had dinner last night at the riverside grill primrily because i had been traveling all day and was too tired to wander from my hotel. i expected marginal fare that was a little too pricey for it's own good...and have to say that based on the plentiful but bland ceasar salad thought that's just what i was gonna get. however, the salmon entree was perfect. flaky and crisp on the edges but melt in your mouth tasty in the center. the salmon was pan-sears and served on a polenta that was also quite good. skip the salad course but expect more than you normally would for a best western based restaurant.

my wife and i were spending a few days on a local vacation and decided to swing by riverside for a late lunch. she had a full order fish and chips while i went with a half order of salmon fish and chips and a cup of smoked salmon chowder. i had never tried either before and was slightly concerned but i have to say i may not eat any kind of white fish in a fish and chips again. lightly battered and stunningly delicious. the chowder was incredible with an amazing flavor. really great lunch with great views of the columbia river. there was also dessert with a slice of salted caramel cheesecake. i'm not normally a big fan of salted caramel but the cheesecake was very good. we also had the house pinot gris wine with our lunch and it went perfectly with the fish.

if you want quality. the house wines here are outstanding and the food is expensive, but worth it.

food was strange and way too expensive! beer was warm. if you're staying at the best western, don't waste your money here. go back into town.

mothra says.....food with a view on the river.. on a recent trip to hood river and, after a disappointing dinner at stonehedge the night before (see review), k and i had a free breakfast coupon for the riverside grill in the hood river inn. first of all, the riverside grill is stylish, modern, fairly quiet (only one screaming kid… & the mom did the right thing and they walked out for a time), and the columbia river view is spectacular.

as you know, good breakfasts can be really hard to find. this breakfast was really very good. k ordered up scrabbled eggs with bacon, fried potatoes, and sourdough bread. i had the croissant egg sandwich with cheese and sliced ham. potatoes as well; coffee for me, grapefruit juice for k. although slow, the quality and courteous service more than made up for the wait. overall, we'll be back to dine again, possibly for dinner as the menu looks intriguing. mothra says… 3.3 of 5.0

where was chef deresta?. we had a coupon, so we tried the breakfast. flavors were good, but the presentation of my oatmeal left a lot to be desired. granted, it was a monday morning and probably had the second string in the kitchen. oatmeal with poached pears and all the usual accompaniments sounded great. but when i get it, i'm puzzled; the pear hasn't been cored. i'm not sure, is this a european thing, are you supposed to eat the core? i do have a knife, so i attack the pear. it's yummy and not too sweet. then the oatmeal, loose and not gluey, but it's stuck to the edge of the bowl. it was plated long ago, and has a rim of tough oatmeal stuck to the bowl. how hard is it to dish up oatmeal? or use a little plastic wrap? we love hood river and will probably stay here again, but breakfast? not sure. chef deresta may want to spend a little more time going over the basics...

delicious, but very upscale. you have to have some cash to go here. service can be slow. i think there's a new chef so the menu is a little different. the menu's also a little shorter than it used to be, but i don't know why, but it still has all the basics such as steak, burgers, fish, etc. very modern atmosphere and beautiful view of columbia river. :)
