still my favorite deli in chattanooga. best pastrami and corned beef sandwiches in town. better than new york because you can avoid ny's teeming millions.
keep up the good work bruce!

first rate food, friendly people, 9.3. always great food, always full at lunch so get there early.

bruce and the staff give you warm greetings. it has a neighborhood feel to the place sorely lacking in most other chattanooga delis and small restaurants.

no false airs and pretentiousness here; just good people fixing good food.

great food!. chose this restaurant by the smell! was walking around with my two kids in search of lunch and almost missed it because it's kinda tiny. very much loved the muffaletta sandwich! it fell apart a little, but taste was spot on. it came toasted and piled high with very fresh tasting meat and this wonderful tapenade. my boyfriend had the turkey with sundried tomato and provolone sandwich and i didn't hear any complaining out of him either. i ordered 2 hot dogs for the kids but only one got eaten. my picky eater didn't care for it. the hot dogs looked like good high quality beef dogs, not sure if they were. my only disappointment was the cookie. they had giant cookies up by the register so i got the peanut butter with reese's pieces and it just tasted try to me. i got my order to go so i can't vouch for the bathrooms, but overall impression was good. will return!

great, fresh sandwiches. my husband and i just ate at river street deli over the weekend while visiting chattanooga. this place has the best sandwiches i've ever had! we both had specials of the day- the philly reuben and some sort of spicy turkey wrap with avocado. both were very good. the sandwiches are not cheap but you pay for the quality which you can taste. we were so impressed we ordered two more sandwiches to bring back to birmingham with us. i ate half of my jerk turkey and pineapple chutney sandwich today and my husband had the muffaletta and they were both awesome. i would definitely recommend stopping by the river street deli. i also think they should open a franchise in birmingham, al :)

a real gem. river street deli is a real diamond when compared to most southern delis. the city has made parking a real hassle (way to make it tough on local businesses) but it is worth the effort to eat here. good selection of choices for every taste.

other have mentioned the stromboli, and it is wonderful, just not available every day. i often buy a whole one and take home to freeze and slice for appetizers with company over for dinner. tastes like one from the italian sections in northeast cities.

but the crown jewel here is the muffalata, cannot believe someone actually dissed this item but there is are many different tastes and opinions. i have eaten muffaltas all over louisiana and the gulf coast and this is the best i have found. everyone i have been with has raved about this sandwich. i was there one day and folks from baton rouge came in and laughed about getting this louisiana specialty in chattanooga; the owner encouraged them to try it and i supported him. less than half way through the sandwich they commented to me that it was better than any version they had tried in their home state. they were blown away. recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it.

best lunch, best chef - great place. if you're looking for fancy and expensive, go find another place, but if you're into good value, delicious food, and a down home feeling, you've come to the right place. the river street deli is a hidden gem- a real find.

i've been to chattanooga on business ten times in the past twelve years, each time for 5-10 days, and any time i'm not needed at a lunch conference at the client's place, this is my 'go to' lunch place. i don't bother going anywhere else for lunch anymore.

the food is consistently terrific. i've had the stromboli, the muffulleta, the reuben, the panini, the meat loaf, lots of salads............. .the list goes on. i've never been disappointed. every time i go back there i feel like i discovered hidden treasure.

bruce, the owner and chef, seems to know everybody in town and makes you feel like you found a home away from home. it's not fancy, but this place is a winner and hits the spot time and time again.

dines at rsd for the first time today. the sandwiches were awesome and big! and service was way fast, even though it was crowded with the after church crowd and the visiting head of the hooch folks...will definitely return soon!

will try again. i had the muffaleta here the other day. it was hardly new orleans style as it had corned beef on it. i also had a bit of a problem with the way the corned beef was built up in the center of the sandwich to give it that "n.y. deli" look. a mufaletta has nothing to do with nyc or environs.

i don't go to new orleans for a hot pastrami on rye. i don't go to nyc for a muffaleta. i will, however, give this establishment another try soon.

online menu prices don't match reality. dropped in today to try this place out and am regretting the decision. i had looked at the menu online and decided on a $6.95 sandwich, but at the till my total was $9! i asked for a receipt and the sandwich rang up at $8.25 instead. i was in a rush so didn't have time to question it, and thought perhaps i'd remembered wrong, but no, online menu still says the lower price. the sandwich is good and possibly enough for two lunches, but still, very misleading. wish i'd stayed to ask and make sure and get my money back. i won't be going again, not with so many other lunch options in the area.

real deal. its our regular place to eat for sunday lunch. we have 2 kids and they enjoy it too. we have tried to break away to find something new for sunday lunch, but yet to find anything to compare. the chef is always greeting, curtious and explains the specials. something new daily. the regular meals frittata, mufallata (big easy central mkt style) and the reuban (omg) are the best i have ever tried. good atmosphere, excellent food, friendly service and a taste of ny deli. if you havent eaten here, you are missing out. its the best find in chattanooga!

epic sandwiches. ...like the muffulleta, panko-breaded chicken, or the amazing vegetarian sandwich i had here once. they are delicious, and enormous, with fresh toppings and great bread. the soup is good too. great prices for the amount of food you get. i usually get what's on special, and it's never been anything but good.

fantastic!. not much more to add besides what's been said. this place serves up great food in a no-nonsense setting, for a decent price. i always get whatever sandwich is on special. a friend told me the specials are often decided based on what they have "leftovers" of, but i've yet to be disappointed by one! my favorites are stromboli and grilled meatloaf sandwich. staff may appear intimidating based on sheer tattoo count, but they're generally friendly.
