good burgers and fries. not the best i've ever had, but if we were after a burger in wanaka this is where we'd go!

i didn't think much of this place.
the burger had lots of fresh lettuce but the meat pattie was hard and springy,tasted frozen and commercially produced. for a dedicated burger bar this place is absolute rubbish!

one of the best burger shop on my list and one of the only burger shop i trust on quality. you can't go wrong getting a red star burger any time! total quality burger worth the hype. i am a very healthy person, but i would work extra hard just to have a burger from redstar.

this burger bar is located slightly away from the town centre of wanaka. seating inside is small but there are outdoor seating with heaters as well for the cold weather.

had the classic beef burger. the burger is huge and the buns are tall. it is quite a solid quality burger all round, wash it all down with a local craft beer. apart from the standard beef patty, they also serve burgers with lamb and venison patties.

so the next time you're craving a good burger around wanaka, you'll know where to go.

great food.had the venison burger and was thoroughly satisfied. my recommendation, dont try be a hero and have a burger and large fries. you shouldn't make your meals a struggle.

great burgers.  we ordered a bbq beef, lamb and fish.  i had the lamb burger and it was nicely done, moist and full of yummy flavours.  one of the best burgers i have ever tasted.  price was reasonable too.  highly recommended.

below was the original review. since writing they have made some fundamental mistakes with orders, such as forgetting someone’s burger. still good food but suffering the problems of a small place becoming popular.

this place is slowly turning into a wanaka institution. sadly the most recent time there was no venison but all of the burgers were good. quite large so don't overdo the fries, although the sauces they offer are really good.

really really good burgers. wide choice. good prices. amazing combinations. i liked it very much. but we couldn't dine in. the restaurant is small and the seats are bar-like, hence, not very comfortable. so we are in the car. still, an enjoyable experience. :)

after snapping lake wanaka and camping by the free wifi booth - it was dinner time. being daylight sayings in new zealand though, it felt like it was 3pm - it was so bright out our stomachs felt otherwise... . wild venison pattie: blue cheese, beetroot relish  $15. the waiter recommended to dump the blue cheese so y'all could really taste the venison.

my family was visiting wanaka and we tried red star. this shop is well named, as their burgers are indeed a luxury to eat. they aren't cheap, but if you want to pay extra for the best then this is the place to go.

the only possibly negative feature is that their burgers are so generously filled that some of us found it difficult to eat them without spilling pieces of the filling.

we had a nice meal
the service was prompt and efficient
the burgers were generous, and delicious
i have not tried "fergs" in queenstown, but definitely comparable to wisconsin, or burger fuel.

i had the lamb burger, t had the venison
i reckon her venison was nicer than my lamb, but
i am happy that she has such good taste

virgin(vegetarian falafel burger) tasty burger, nice beetroot relish. thought perhaps instead of the yoghurt they could have used tahini-would have been vegan, and perhaps better, a bit more authentic. i might go back and try another vegetarian burger, but i must say, i think it should be cheaper. the basic meat burger for $10.50 should also have a vegetarian equivalent. the cajun fries were nice and spicy.

#1 recommendation if you guys read this: heinz tomato ketchup.

awesome, burgerlicious, everything you could want or need in a burger place.

not cheap, but bloody good value.

amazing burgers..

blue cheese burger was the bomb.. the venison burger... just as fantabulous!

the chips... massive portions with yummy aioli.. must also try the kumara (think thats what it was) chips.. they were even better

on another note.. i also compared tghe venison burger with the burger from ferg burger in queenstown.. took about 5 bites and threw the rest away and opted for a cheeseburger from macdonalds instead..
