i’ve been making the lentil walnut pate at home out of the rfd cookbook for years but had never been to the cafe to try it. if you’re allergic to nuts, i’m sad for you because this spread is so full of savory goodness i could eat it everyday. no joke. the secret ingredients are ume (japanese pickled plum)and miso, giving it a deep umami flavor. my guess is that you could also substitute pumpkin or sunflower seeds if you wanted to, but the toasted walnut flavor is so pleasing to me. pecan crusted tempeh on a b

my non-vegan friends and i came here for girls night out and it was the best! the food tasted great, and the service was amazing!

special shoutout for their pizza, which was crunchy, bready, and packed with flavor, and their cheesecake, which was super creamy, sweet and packed with berries!

best to get there early as the place gets full fast!

always great and non vegans will love it. we love it here, every time we come to la we make sure we eat here as much as possible. my favorites are the not-cho's (vegan nachos) and the spicy blt and i ask for cheese as an extra, the burger with the lot + potato and gravy. we take non vegan people here and they love it! could be considered a bit expensive for lunch but its worth every cent.

there's plenty of on street parking right in front of the restaurant at meters as well as valet parking after 6 pm.  apparently, we were somewhat of an anomaly as we walked over to the restaurant from our hotel, which was all of one mile away.  only afterwards did we notice that no one really spends much time walking, which is such a shame considering the constant gorgeous weather they have there. real food daily coffee bar and counter area when you enter  real food daily , the coffee bar and counter is immediately in front of you.  turn to the left to find the hostess stand to be seated where we could choose to sit either inside or out on the patio.  we didn't have to wait more than a few seconds before someone came over and escorted us to a table.  lea michele, julia stiles, jessica biel, tobey maguire, and jake gyllenhaal are just a few of the many celebrities that frequent  real food daily  so you never know who might be enjoying healthy, organic vegan food near you when you take your seat. real food daily the decor of the restaurant is what i might describe as industrial chic with open rafters and exposed ductwork, minimalist artwork, and metals mixed with pale green, yellow, white, and pops of orange. one of the really cool things about the restaurant is that they used refurbished wood salvaged from indonesia to make the table tops and the bar.

i fell in love with the almond “tuna” during that second visit, and immediately had a craving for it when i was studying for my final set of exams. real food daily in west hollywood. the set-up was similar to that of pasadena’s (they seriously need to make a bigger sign though—that small rectangle is easy to miss!), with an outdoor seating area and the cashwrap close to the entrance. i could tell it was a busy saturday afternoon, and i was given a seat at a corner booth. it was at this time i had my first unintentional celebrity sighting! i recognized the face of sara gilbert, but it took me a while to match up the name to her face. i also do not get starstruck very easily, so i didn’t do anything awkward like ask for an autograph or “ask her to take a selfie with me” like my dad suggested via text i went ahead and ordered the great cardini salad, and when the waiter asked if i wanted blackened seitan, i made my move and requested the almond “tuna” instead. the request was accepted, and i excitedly waited for my dream bowl to arrive.

overall, i was disappointed, but mostly in myself for ordering that club sandwich. i bet if i had ordered the wrap, it would have been much better. everyone raves about this place so some of the other entrees and sandwiches are probably great. mine, however, was not. but, my juice and appetizer were. and my server was awesome. so, overall, i enjoyed my visit and will just plan to order something different next time.

real food daily is a nice place. it’s not a hole-in-the-wall, off-the-beaten-path kind of a place. no, no, no. it’s nice. it’s just a couple of blocks from the beverly center and cedars sinai. it looks like a place you could, and should, hang out on a friday night with your…well, non-meat eating friends. second, the food is decently tasty…decently. i mean, for me, there isn’t anything on the menu that couldn’t be helped by the addition of copious amounts of animal protein, but i know that’s not the point. the mission is to give you the great taste of the dishes you love, without the guilt or shame of eating meat.

do they succeed? well, it’s kind of a hit or miss affair for me, the non-vegetarian.

real food meal: brown rice, beans, greens, land and sea vegetables, pressed salad, dressing or sauce. based on the principles of macrobiotics, the ‘real food meal’ is a balanced selection of foods representing the five elements of eastern health philosophy.
(this is amazing. souen in the west village has a macrobiotic plate as well, but it doesn’t actually taste good.)

synchronicity is a wonderful thing; one of my friends sent me a text to see if i had four 12″ saucepans i could lend her for the los angeles food and wine event in santa monica…in exchange she gave me a ticket to the event! i arrived before the event actually began, so there weren’t any crowds yet for the tables; it was nice to meander and see who was there before it was open. waiters and waitresses circulated with small bites as people arrived. this fellow had a chorizo and pork belly mini slider. my friend molly finally donned her chef whites in the 90 degree heat and looked every bit the professional. my pans were used for the kerry heffernan booth, and it turns out he was the guest chef from ny at the event! kerry’s dish was a crab and pasta ragu with green beans and micro cilantro. graham elliot ‘s presentation of fresh sea urchin, scallop, seaweed, and ocean foam was the most beautiful of the venue (he is about to taste joe’s watermelon bbq plate in this pic). there was even an o

great service and food. i've been there twice and both times had a great server. the first time we were a table of about 20 (with an original reservation for 8 or 9) and every person asked the same annoying questions, "can the spicy blt be made not spicy?" our waitress should have shot us but she kept on smiling and laughing and explaining the same deal to each person. no, its spicy. i can use regular mayo. no i wont use half spicy mayo half not...
last night i went and was served my majeed, who was fantastic. he was very quick, funny, and sweet. when one guy in our party was embarressed to have the small end of his burrito box he came over, suggested it, then reassured him that he payed for it, he should enjoy it all. he was very patient and made perfect recommendations.
i had the stir fry and i highly recommend. in fact everyone loved what they got, which majeed stated were rfds top hits, including the alredo pasta, burrito, and i think it was the reuben, or double decker. will be back again soon!

la gets a bad rap. it’s too big. it’s too polluted. it’s superficial. it’s snarled in traffic. that may all be true, but la is also so much more than the sum of its negative parts. some of them are obvious, others less so, but they are all quintessentiall
