spice up your life!. in the middle of birmingham's binge-drinking central, attached to a budget hotel, you'll find pushkar's. don't let the location put you off! this new edition to birmingham's ever-maturing epicurean panorama serves the coolest cocktails and sumptuous indian cuisine that even ummi kumar (at number 42) would be proud off - although it may not be her choice of décor with no flock wallpaper in sight. the clean and simple furniture and decoration shout cool-living, and the stylish lighting and chilled out music make it easy to waste an hour or two sipping cocktails on the bar's high stools. try a refreshing garden julep with cucumber and rose syrup or for the die hard drinkers go for a super-hip martini in beautiful sculpted glassware. having worked my way through the cocktail list over my past few visits, i can honestly say there isn't a bad one on there. much like the food menu which caters for all tastes from the super-hot to the delicately spiced. vegetarians needn't despair either as there is a good range of dishes. food presentation is appetising, and not out of character with birmingham's fine-dining establishments with which pushkar's holds it's own. service is spot on and the staff are happy to advise on drinks, and the menu. dinner with wine will set you back c. £30 per head. cocktails are around the £6 mark.

for me, pushkar has always held the top spot for indian cuisine in birmingham. the decor, the welcome, the cocktails, the wine list and, of course, the food, has always been slightly ahead of the game.

we weren't disappointed last night. starters consisted of a trio of mixed murgh and a veg platter. i'm not sure what the grilled scallop haryali added to the mix - it tasted of, well, scallop!

mains were lamb ghosht, kadhai murgh and dal makhani -  a real delight and great companion for the saint clair sauvignon blanc.

but guys, what is happening with the gents washroom? some serious tlc and plumbing required here!

overall, another great experience, although as the competition for food in birmingham hots up, pushkar will need to fight to hold on to that top spot!

expected fine dining experience, staff were great and food was of a decent quality. was great to see a slight kenyan fusion within the names of some of the meals! the starters and the drinks were definitely the highlight of my visit.

we went to pushkar to have dinner. we had ordered a table for 7 but due to last minute surprises we expected 8 people to turn up. the restaurant made us feel very uncomfortable and were rude cause they needed to arrange seating for an extra person.

going to the food , since we were quite a big group we tried the entire bread basket along with some dhaal, butter chicken , mutton and lamb curry. as for vegetarians like me , they have good spread of paneer , bhindi and potato curries. the bhindi curry wasn't great and very garlicky for my liking. the quantity of all dishes are in small portion as you would normally expect in a fine dining restaurant.

the drinks menu has quite a descent selection of cocktails and a few mocktails. would definitely recommend the grape fusion mocktail for non alcoholics.

overall if you are prepared to put through a bit of bad service in a really busy restaurant you might enjoy the food and the very well crafted and maintained decor of pushkar.

service - 2.5
food - 3.75
decor - 4

one thing that stands out for this place is it's decor, it looks great and it feels great to be there. location which happens to be broad street is another big plus. visited on a friday night around 10 and it was almost full though it has got lots of space. food is very nice however quantity is less, drinks menu is ok. all in all a good place for a lovely fine dine experience.

the decor is classy and everything looks perfect. unfortunately that seems to be the main focus. overlooking the bit about when we were seated after quite a bit of dilly-dallying even though we were the second guests to arrive in the entirely empty place(we didn't have a reservation), the lady who took our drinks order sneakily managed to sell us papad (popadoms) with three itsy-bits of chutney.
the mustard prawn were nice as starters - quite different and good to taste, the lamb curry we ordered just didn't feel special.
overall i def won't be going back.

pushkar was buzzing and lively. it feels glamorous, yet relaxed at the same time. though it was busy and lively when i visited it didn’t feel crowded, nor was the service rushed. the tables are well spaced out and this helps to provide a chilled-out atmosphere. - see more at: http://www.dinebirmingham.co.uk/post/93017929456/pushkar-birmingham-review#sthash.upduhkuo.dpuf

on a stag weekend in birmingham we had a meal in pushkars overall can't complain about the meal itself but found the menu to be very limited on top of this our bill included a £49 service charge, if we wanted to give a tip we would have gladly. on top of this the overall bill was £442 gave them £450 still waiting on the change. so when you visit this place make sure they advise before hand they advise you of this wee small matter and if you give the additional funds ensure they give you your change back

not bad, lovely decor but annoyingly average food, all frills no substance. much better to be found in birmingham, try channi's on stratford rd simple place with fantastic food.
