proof on main

amazing! delicious! lovely!. who knew celery root soup could be so good? or that bison raised on the owner's farm would be so tender? seasonal menu, local ingredients, lovely presentation, great service, and an excellent wine list add up to a magical evening. plus you can view the art work between courses. the prices are up there, but you really do get the highest quality ingredients, preparation, and service. the perfect place for a special celebration.

food was good. they weren't real busy, but seemed understaffed.  service was very poor with long periods without a waiter.

extensive bar, but apparently an off night for the bartender who seemed unhappy to have us there. at one point he in the face of the manager(?), who did ask him to step to a less public area for the discussion.

all bad enough, but we had alerted the hostess at the start of the evening that it was our anniversary.

service shouldn't be this bad at any price.

the server was very interactive and great for out of town guests! gave some great reccomendations.

the atmosphere is modern, the service was good and the food was awesome. the cheese platter was very good. i loved the selection that they provided. the bison steak was delicious especially if you combine everything that they give you on the plate. all in all, i had a great time and would definitely come back.

we love this place!. my husband and i always go to proof for our anniversary and have never been disappointed. great service, great atmosphere--really, really wonderful food. reminds me of italy in that they use local, fresh ingredients.

interesting place. the art on the walls appealed to me as all paintings were of cars with custom interiors. the octopus salad was great. ordered the bison and it was cooked to perfection. wine list was amazing.

pretty tasty, but too expensive. there are better places in louisville for the money. the setting is wonderful and makes for a great place to meet friends for drinks. bar service is good. definitely worth a try as there are far worse places as well.

used to be more impressive. proof used to me one of my favorite restaurants in louisville, for several reasons it's gone downhill. i like that they are using local foods in fancy applications, but the time it took you to shape that meat into a cube could have been used to add spices. fancy french and italian on paper sounds good, doesn't mean much if it isn't impressive. recently went on a monday, and it took far too long to get everything and anything, understaffed?? portions keep getting smaller, i swear. maybe i'm getting fatter? if you are a 4 top, you should receive an appropriate amount of portions with an appetizer, don't give me three pieces of toast, that just doesn't make sense. does anyone in the kitchen know how to read a ticket?
all in all, proof has become more about the presentation, from the outside, inside, appetizer to dessert. presentation is elegant, but not everything. sorry proof you have been downgraded in my opinion.

old school bar - making cocktails the way they should. must have a hand made cocktail prior to dining. staff goes out of their way to ensure you are satisfied. must have charred octopus, ny strip. soups off the chart as well as the hen. a place we will revisit when back in louisville.

a hangout for drag queens and glory hole seekers. or someone of the other 75 genders that now "exist."

not for me. ugly "artwork" and overpriced drinks. yeah. no thanks.

we had snacks in the bar area, so i can't rate the actual dining room. but we had a burger and the smoked ribs, and both were very good. also an excellent bourbon selection. been to proof before and i'll definitely return

before our first stop on the bourbon trail, vicki and i stopped at proof on main in downtown louisville for lunch. i had read about it in southern living, the bible, so of course it earned a quick spot on my itinerary.proof on main is actually the restaurant inside of the 21c museum hotel, which has contemporary art displays. you even walk through the museum to get to the restroom. the interior has rustic, dark woods paired with exposed brick and modern light fixtures - plus white tablecloths. just beautiful.

had a date night here. very modern atmosphere and well-mannered, professional, and patient workers. food was decent. my date and i enjoyed the appetizers. i don't recall what i originally wanted to order that night for the main course, but they were "out of it." overall, my experience was decent.

absolutely marvelous. fun atmosphere (can be formal or casual) and food creations that are unique and tasty. the octopus! and i'm not kidding, the green beans! lol
