ok, we were looking for something convenient because the weather was awful and we didn’t have a car. choices were limited so we were prepared for anything but hit a jackpot! this place is small, dark and loud but the food was outstanding with very attentive wait staff. we had the beer battered green beans and they were amazing! don’t skip these. we also had the fried chicken sandwich. it was so good—no breaded chicken breast here, this is a heavily battered, extra crispy thigh which was incredibly juicy topped with cheese an an aioli, crunchy pickles and a super tender bun, comes with shoestring fries which were really good, albeit a little on the salty side. loved the attention of our server and wished i had space for the s’mores pie.

if you're looking for a neighborhood bar where the food is good and craft beers are on offer, look no further than prohibition tap room. located near bufad pizza and cafe lift, prohibition tap room certainly held its own when the gf and i stopped by last fall. there are plenty of comfy bar stools and several tables as well. it's a dive in the best sense of the word.

i was just there again yesterday and ordered my usual burger and beer battered green beans. i had tried the specials and other menu items but these had become my staple order.

not your average neighborhood sports bar. i love this place! this is one of the few places i've found in philadelphia that has a laid back, sports bar-type feel to it. i have frequented this bar on tuesday and thursday nights, and although both times it's been busy, there has always been a place to sit at either the bar or a table. i have not been on a weekend, although i hear it can get very busy. the crowd is fun and eclectic, the beer selection is good and always changing. i've had the mussels cooked in ale, which is the traditional style from belgium. the bartender explained that this style was a little more bitter, but traditional, and i went into it with an open mind. he was right, but i enjoyed the flavor and the mussels were fresh. the portion was large too. i've also had the hummus and pita which was delicious and reasonably -priced. i'm looking forward to visiting this place on a sunday night when they have vinyl night.

fantastic low key bar. my girlfriend and i found this location when we were looking for a more conversation friendly location to watch the game last weekend. a friend recommended prohibition taproom and i am so glad that he did. from the outside, it looks like a dive bar in a nondescript block of the city. the outside is adorned with a neon bar sign pulled out of a 70's cop drama. however that speaks to the nature of this eatery. the seemingly rough surface elements of prohibition taproom hide a simple but awesome interior in every way. the austere exterior gives way to a clean and simple but interesting interior. daily specials are written above the bar in chalk and edison style light bulbs illuminate the bar paying homage to a time period in american history often forgotten. the draft selection looks like your usual selection of ipa's and lagers. however further inspection reveals a regularly changing menu with a wide variety of well priced micro brews from across the country. the menu is equally surprising. on first glance, it looks like a collection of your normal bar fare. burgers, mac and cheese, a selection of fried items, and grilled cheese. the chefs at prohibition taproom have amped up this usual selection in creative and delicious ways. the tempura green beens with house aioli and the apples with chorizo make for amazing starters. the burgers are adorned with many exotic cheeses and sauces while still maintaining the identity of the prime beef. the vegetarian selections were outstanding. my only complaint about the menu is that the mac and cheese is ordered so fast that it appears you need to get there early in the day to stake your claim on an order before it runs out. all of these fantastic features of prohibition taproom are still trumped by the truly friendly and helpful wait staff. every member of the staff seemed truly pleased that we enjoyed our experience and were excited to discuss the finer points of the menu. the bartenders were well versed in the beers they draught. overall this is one of my favorite spots in all of the city for a delicious and relaxing pub atmosphere for which i've been looking since moving to this city.

great little hole in the wall. for those corporate it geeks who go to sungard in phl, this is a perfect watering hole directly behind the sumgard facility. just a couple blocks. rough hood, but worth it. a gazillion beers on the menu. new, clean. we're about to try the food.
