r i’m a west side girl. yes, i have, of course, been to price hill chili. (i don’t think i’d get my west side card if i haven’t!) but, truth be told…haven’t been there in years! not that i don’t enjoy it, i just don’t like traveling that far up glenway ave. back in the day – that would be 30 years ago ( shut up) – we would go to sam’s (that’s what we called it then!), for saturday night dinner. there weren’t any applebee’s or friday’s, in the 80′s…mom and pop restaurants were the norm. so, sam’s would be our big night out. it was one room. tiny grill in front. simple diner food, done well. chili, goetta, double deckers…west side staples. (i always got the sam’s salad – and, they still have it!) the husband and i were going to see a play (musical, really) with my parents – yes, we got sucked into their oldie’s theater show. since it was at the covedale theater, we decided to go to phc (that’s going to be price hill chili, from now on, got it?). i was immediately flooded with memori

the service was pretty good, the food was standard. it was a solid experience that i would recommend if you are looking for a quick bite on the west side for not too much money.

price hill chili

hated it
i grew up in price hill in the 80's and 90's i moved away . i was in the neighborhood saturday 03/21/2015 and decided to visit price hill chili a place i used to love to go to when i was growing up there. my partner and i were greated and sat in a closed section right in the path of the servers quarters , the waitress was not pleased to see us and not unfriendly but not concerned with our service either. we both ordered 4 ways and a cheese coney . the chili was luke warm and the noodles were even colder barely any cheese and i mean barely any , i ate a few bites and spit out plenty of grissel and fat . i could not eat anymore . i said quite loudly that the chili is not like it used to be so the waitress cold hear me she was at the next table cleaning it . she did'nt ask if i wanted anything else to replace the chili clearly i had a plate full of food and a cheese cony sitting there afetr we had been there for over 30 min with food in front of us. at the end she asked how is everything i said its kinda ok in a disappointed voice. she asked if we were ready for our check instead of asking me if ii would like something else . she brings the check and i pay , didn't ask if i want a box for my uneaten meal that i am paying for. she takes my card and comes back standing at the table until i sign and write in the tip infont of her , still i left here a $5.00 tip thinking she could probably use it . still no offer of a box or anything else. she sits at the table right next to us and counts here money to close out and go home . i had to ask a random young man who may have been a busser to get me some boxes for the food i took home and eventually threw away anyway. bad service , bad food . i am so disappointed i used to love that place it is in my blood to love that place so many memories and than this happened.

the first thing you notice about price hill chili is its outside curb appeal. as you drive by you can’t help but think you’re about to visit an old-timey chili parlor. couple that with the exterior of their cocktail lounge, the golden fleece, and it just feels like you’re about to go somewhere good. and we were.

what school?. what passes for good food in the restaurant desert that is cincinnati's west side. that being said, it's more than passable and you'll receive a great welcome so long as you went to high school on the west side. not worth a special trip however.

not the best chili...but good family vibe. growing up in cincinnati i had heard lots of good things about phc so i was really excited to give it a try. from my first experience all i can say is don't go there for the chili, it tasted kind of bland as if the flavor was steamed out. i've heard that lots of other items on there menu are worth getting though so don't let that dissuade you from checking out this popular local joint. i just wouldn't call a chili powerhouse. it does have a great local family vibe though and the food is very affordable.

just about every westie native i’ve ever met, though, has something good to say about the place. after paying it a visit, i think i understand the charm that makes the place just so nice to visit.

price hill chili has been serving up their brand of chili to west side residents since 1962. inside the restaurant the ramshackle layout is evidence of the gradual expansion over the years that has led to price hill chili practically taking over the block, testament to the devotion of its regular patrons. we opted to sit at the lunch counter in the original part of the restaurant. price hill chili has expanded to the point where it now has two kitchens, and regulars tell us the chili is better from the original front kitchen and we're not ones to argue with regulars. s

best cincinnati chili. when i find myself on the west side of town i find myself gravitating to phc. first off, their chili is better than skyline or gold star, so they get a huge plus for having the best cincinnati chili in my opinion. they also have quite an expansive menu, lots of options. although i usually get their gyros or the chili.

the decor is filled with tons of local high school sports memorabilia, and newspaper clippings of the local and national elected officials politicking here. the atmosphere provides the excellent opportunity for west side cultural experiences too. where else will you see a catholic priest drinking a beer with his dad? or, watch the whole room spontaneously erupt into singing their high school fight song? until i get an answer to this question, i'll be coming back to price hill chili.
