portobello cafe

the food was exquisite. very flavorful and friendly waiter. we will definitely be back and spread the word. i highly recommend the lobster tail dish and the surf and turf dish. authentic italian food.

worst dinner ever, had the mussels in white sauce, extremely small and tasteless. my entree i ordered a special, lobster fra diabalo, was not spicy, not enough sauce and the lobster was totally over cooked, it was like chewing rubber. you were given no side dishes, not even a garden salad. totally over priced for italian food. the place is way too small and loud. finally our waiter was totally obnoxious and annoying. waited forever for our check. suffice it to say, i will not be returning ever!!!!

poor experience. we had dinner with friends there last night and had a very poor experience and will likely never return. i have never been in a restaurant so loud. they had a raucous party of 30 that practically filled the place and basically destroyed the experience for every other diner in the place.

the food was served lukewarm (all courses), and the service was average at best.

overall, not worth the trip so unless you are from the neighborhood and can walk there, would stay away.

poor/rude service ruins the night. we have been here several times. the food is pretty good (but pricey). but every time we go we feel like we are an inconvenience to the wait staff.
my husband said he won't go back. he is italian and says he can't stand stuffy italians that act like they are better than everyone else. he comes from a fun loving italian family. we took his mother there for her 86th birthday and the waiter was rude to her. i couldn't believe it! who is rude to an 86 year old lady, let alone a customer!!! they ruined what should have been a nice night out.
our bill for 5 was $175 (before the tip) which i feel is a bit costly for a byob but shows that we were good customers.
it also appears that they stopped giving the after dinner drink which used to be a nice touch that made you leave there thinking that in spite of their actions the entire night maybe they really do appreciated their customers.

just awful ... soggy, tasteless, greasy are words that come to mind. thank god for wine !!!!

great food. this is one of the best itilain food resturant"s my family eaten it felt just like home food is 5 star service is great it is a byo place but its worth it this is one of our best places to go

love this place!. my husband and i just love portobello. the wait staff is polite and helpful; the menu and specials are terrific, and the atmosphere is enjoyable and cozy. it's a byob restaurant with excellent food. i love their branzino, penne lauren, and linguini with white clam sauce. i frequently order their smoked salmon as an appetizer, and my husband enjoys their large, fresh salads. they offer a small but delectable array of desserts, and their menu and specials prices are good. one thing i really like is that the owner frequently (not always) tops off your evening with an after dinner drink (gratis). he sets two bottles on your table (usually amaretto, port, or sambuca), from which to choose. we use portobello as our go-to restaurant. try it! you'll love it!

i don't get the menu. granted the food was good, (costly) had much better within a 6 mile radius. my gripe, if you order from the main inside of the menu, you do not get a soup or salad even though you pay the same price for the back menu page. the waiter asked my daughter if she wanted soup or salad (not a great salad, just basically lettuce with caeser dressing) and she did not know it would be a charge, she said soup, $5.25 was added, not great soup either. so why do you only get a choice of soup or salad if you order from the back? every italian joint i eat at gives them with every meal. the waiter said the specials but we could not understand him at all and i noticed a special i would have gotten if i could have understood him. very noisey atmosphere, but the card/magician was great. will i go back, even though it is close, i think i'll still go to the other one farther away.

amazing!!. we had a fabulous dinner from beginning to end. asparagus parmesan for an app. lobster fri diablo for dinner... not lobster pieces a whole lobster. the tiramisu was moist and just the right size. we are excited to go back in april to celebrate some birthdays!!

very good food and great service!. i eat at tony's at least 3-4 times a month,you can't beat the menu ,clam and pasta in red!
also i have the grillrd fish ,served table-side.his price are so low !!i bring my family and friends all the time.try the food you'll love it,ask for tony "a great guy"

great!!!!!!!!. coming from chicago, i can be a bit picky about my italian food. so picking a place that you are not familiar with can be a little scary. not portobello cafe! the food is great, and the small home setting can be something tat makes you reconsider .......but don't. you will be happy that you went. i had the penne lauren which is salmon in penne pasta, with asparagus and olive oil. yummy! don't pass this place up.

love it!!!!!. we are not blessed with many good restaurants out in the "burbs" (in and around folsom). you either have to go into the city or out towards west chester. sometimes you just wont a local place to eat. and then came portobello! from our first visit my husband and i have loved it. the food is consistently good, the service freindly, and yes, if you are a regular, they know your name! a great local place!
