i love this place! of course i bias because i'm from chicago. but seriously, there is not one thing on there menu i wont eat. its heaven for me. when i cant figure out what to have for lunch or dinner, this is the go to. i can always hammer down a big beef or a big beef combo, dipped of course. when i need greasy, throw me a burger or a double burger! when i want lite, serve me a broiled chicken sandwich! all sorts of thing to get there. oh and for desert.... large chocolate cake shake please! oh man. just writing about it makes me salivate.

don't go here unless you want bad service my waitress was awful and i mean awful. i asked for a lot but she was mixing my order  up and i kid you not asked for the price which is strange because that's never happened. the worst part was my food was cold and hair was in it do not recommend coming back. (this was a school skit)

portillo's hot dogs is a chicago joint that has spread across the country (established in 1963). they were crazy busy when we got there at lunch time. you line up and place your order. our order person was a little on the cranky side but i can understand why. her feet probably hurt and it is very noisy and hard to hear. plus we were placing an order for 7 which involved some changes! next, line up with your number and wait to pick up your food! it is a fun dining area with memorabilia from chicago (second signed picture of guy fieri that i have seen this week). apparently, everyone in chicago eats here (well not here but at portillo's in chicago)! it is not what i would call photogenic food. it gets a little mushed in the wrapping but my taste buds had no complaints! i had a char-grilled maxwell street polish! poppy seed bun, polish sausage with some serious snap to the casing and a pile of grilled onions and mustard. i was in heaven! i also had a tamale buried under cheese and onions. this is not a mexican style tamale but what i would call the soul food version. more filling inside a thinner masa wrapping. very good! the group put away a couple of jumbo chilli cheese dogs, cheese fries and a burger or two. each item was less photographically cooperative than the previous. but so good! our last meal out before the trip home and back to work is what i would choose for any last meal! a little taste of chicago in phoenix!

don't go to this place.employees can throw items at you and be sarcastic and nothing happens to them. just because i laid down a old cup of coke. they totally turn it around on me rather then being honest. when i said the employee jordan threw a pencil at me-they said that it didn't show up on the surveillance camera.  of course a pencil doesn't show 20 feet away. i still have the pencil and am going to mail it to them

had the italian beef and sausage with hot peppers. the service quick and the sandwich was outstanding. frys were just crispy enough. defiantly a place to come back to as the selection was large.

i am not a hotdog or burger guy but visited this place for lunch with some friends and had italian sausage upon their recommendation. i must say that this has been the best i had so far. though the pasta we had was just ok. would visit again some time.

yummy and cheap food. we loved the chocolate shake, but the cake shake was just too grainy for us. the fries are good too, and the breaded chicken croissant sandwich was surprisingly flaky and delicious.

whad-a'ya nuts?! i've been dying for a decent beef in the desert, as i'm a long, lost soul from chi-town who can't bear to leave the open spaces and arid climate. this portillo's is indistinguishable from some on the north side of chicago, where the only better beefs come from little shacks among the neighborhood streets.

great beef!!!. not sure what the other reviewer/diner's expected, but having eaten many an italian beef sandwich, i have never had anything but excellent food "as expected" whenever i enjoy a stop at any of the portillo's stores - here in the az, or chicago!

again trying to get a good italian beef sandwich. portillos comes with chicago creds. unfortunately their italian beef sandwich skimps on the beef, dry (even though i asked for it wet) and flavorless. sad this towns only good sandwich was al's beef and they closed. i do not recommend this restaurant. thanks for reading. the bike chaplain

it's an ok chicago fix. corporate chain famous for there italian beef, a clean and efficient place, does not feel like a hot dog stand, but a large warehouse store. i ordered the jumbo hot dog, small fries, and small soda, the dog did not snap, the fries were much too salty. there are smaller better chicago hot dog and italian beef places in town, that have that chicago feeling.

taste of chicago in the valley of the sun. this popular chicago chain started in 1963. now they are opening here in the valley of the sun capitalizing on the business from the many chicago locals that live here. the restaurant itself has a fun atmosphere to it with all the memorabilia on the walls and all the activity that goes on. my favorites are the jumbo chicago-style dog, the beef n' cheddar croissant, the chopped salad and the chocolate cake shake. this tempe location is strategically located next to the cubs spring training facility and should do quite well.
