we had bruschetta, pizza, and a few types of dessert. the bruschetta was amazing because you could tell they bake their own bread, and the tomatoes and cheese were on par. my favorite pizza was the toto sapore, with pancetta, salame, and prosciutto. seriously so good!

good pizza

nice little spot for pizza and a craft beer. wood fired pizza with some creative flair, at a reasonable price.

they also have a good offering of creative salads. and the pasta dishes ordered by a few other customers appear to be fresh and reasonably healthy, too.

a group of four went on a friday evening and discovered a busy restaurant. we each got a different dish and everyone enjoyed their supper whether it was the arrabbiata (very spicy), the gnocchi, eggplant parmigiana or the pizza margherita. we had one small problem but the management comped that meal plus gave everyone a free dessert. the service was very fast, the people are friendly and they have great gelato. highly recommend this establishment.

we were in the area to attend an event at the phoenix theater and wanted to check out the downtown scene. for dinner, we tried to scope out the latin place next door but they were closed. pomo to the rescue!!! we walked in to a lively and lovely place, chose to sit at the bar near the oven, and proceeded to be treated to one of our best dining experiences ever. our server doted on us like royalty with a prompt and friendly attitude. the cocktails were refreshing. hubby had the italian spritzer, that enlightened me to the fact that i don't care for campari. to each their own. i can't remember what cocktail i ordered, but had two and they were fantastic. something with gin and blood orange juice. anyhow, i had the bufalo pie and hubby had the margherita. both mind blowing. we finished it off with a serving of tiramisu and cannoli. one syllable... wow. in the end i felt like i had spent an evening at a dinner party with close friends.

i have a little soft spot in my heart for tried and true italian food. i have been wanting to try pomo for a year or so now and the opportunity arose when i had a serious pasta craving one wednesday night.

pomo has a large patio when you enter that has cute and pop colored vespas that mark the entrance into the restaurant. the core of the restaurant is built around the open kitchen with the brick oven that acts as a beacon of warmth and good eats. i sat at the bar and was immediately attended to by the bartender who was beyond friendly, welcomed me in, and gave great wine suggestions along with what i should sink my teeth into. i decided on the recommended eggplant parmesan and meatballs. right there in the open kitchen, i spied the chefs making my order ready and firing it in the belly of the oven.

they have a solid list of wines and the super tuscan is an inky crowd pleaser with cabernet like notes and it went perfectly with the slightly on the acidic sauce which was fresh and honored tomatoes zing. the meatballs were light but flavorful which i look for and the eggplant parmesan was the stand out masterpiece. they do not bread their eggplant but lightly pan fry it and then layer it in with ample sauce and sharp cheese which had me over the moon. the bread provided along with olive oil, balsamic, and other accoutrements was great for sopping up sauce but not particularly toasted, crusted, or noteworthy.

i had a overall fantastic meal which was highlighted by exceptionally enthusiastic and well rounded service. i'll have to stop back in to finally try a fired pie but until then i'll keep marinating on how fantastic that eggplant was.

when i first was pulling up to pomo's, i was a little mislead. it was fairly close to arizona state university and was close to the center of downtown phoenix so i didn't expect it to be as good as it was. the restaurant was not as big as i thought it was going to be, however, that did not change the fact that the food was amazing. the only negative part about going to this pomo's is you have to be prepared to pay $5 for parking unless you want to park far away. nonetheless, the parking is right outside of the restaurant so it is not a far walk at all.

as soon as i walked into the restaurant, i was immediately seated. there was a fantastic italian smell there that really gives you the full experience of the food. the menu was quite confusing if i'm being completely honest. it took my friend and i only a few minutes to decide what we wanted to eat but the waitress checked up on us a few times to make sure we were still doing alright. when it came to ordering, i had to ask the waitress to help me understand the menu but she was very nice and helpful.

the food was delivered within 10 minutes of ordering it and when it came out, it looked fantastic. i ordered pizza and if definitely looked professionally made. they did not have ranch which was kind of disappointing but i guess with a place as good as pomo's you don't need the ranch. when i needed a refill, the waitress literally came over as soon as i set my cup down to come refill my drink. all in all, the service was great, the food was great, and the overall environment was great.

located downtown on 1st st, it is a traditional italian pizzeria. with seating on the patio and i the restaurant it is casual. i sat at the bar, which accommodates the patio as well. my pizza was the pepino, which is spicy slices of salami, ricotta, and basil. you are provides with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and a spicy olive oil, along with a parmesan cheese mix, red pepper, and an italian seasoning to your tasting. the pizza of course was a crispy crust, reminded me of italian european pizzerias in europe. service at the bar was pleasant, had a. nice conversation with a couple from spain, who were visiting and enjoyed it as well.

on that autumn trip, they visited pomo pizzeria napoletana.  pizza at pomo chris reports: pomo has a certificate that says the oven is made from bricks that come from mount vesuvius ... very good sauce, buffalo mozzarella ... they have two locations so both are worth a visit ... i like more sauce, both overall a good pie ... not quite delorenzo's on hudson, but very good. chris did not describe the crust, but it looks pretty genuine.  pomo is on my list to visit for my next trip to phoenix.

what an experience! the food is beyond phenomenal! 1000 degree wood fired oven. pizza literally takes 2 minutes to cook. if you want to see what a real restaurant should operate like, go here! clean, organized, and friendly. the owner touches every table at the end of your meal to say thanks. parking either on-street or in a pay lot near by. you need to eat here!

napoli in the desert. we really enjoyed our experience here. the staff was very attentive and made every effort to to make us feel special. ..and this is a pizza place. we ordered the tomato soup and it was excellent. it came with a crusty bread that was homemade, we ordered one to share and ended up battling for spoon realestate. we also had the carpaccio, a favorite that we rarely have the chance to order. it was the perfect size to share and was a great substitute for a salad as there was plenty of peppery arugula accompanying the thinly sliced beef. the pizza is now on our top 10 list and is easily #1 west of the mississippi. this place only makes pizza according to naples' strict guidelines which means you will not find a pie with pineapples and ham, etc. it is a thin crust 12" pie with a few options for toppings. ours was the don giovanni with sweet red peppers basil and salame. the meal ended with a complimentary creamy limonciello shot for the adults and italian hazelnut chocolates for the kids. we will definitely find excuses to be in downtown phx for sure.
