it's always good to come home.... been a while since i dined in here. since my last visit they have done some additional remolding on the restaurant side. the counter in the back has been completely redone and looks outstanding. i noticed the back wall also has a kinda rock like finish on it now too. it looks good.
we were a group of 3 on this visit and i went with a medium pepperoni pizza. my companions had had a cheese steak and fried chicken sandwich. the cheese steak comes on a steak platter and fills it from side to side. not quite as big as it used to be but still a large and impressive sandwich. the same can be said for the fried chicken breast sandwich. it also comes on a steak platter. half of it is the sandwich while the other half is loaded with steak fries. pictures included.
last but not least my pie... the pizza here is truly unique. made with a thin crust on a cookie sheet and slices are cut in squares. one of the best pizza's hampton roads for sure.
as always the food was cooked to perfection. that's why this is one of the very few places i go to that consistently gets a 5 star review. they're that good imop. check them out!

this time... burgers!. normally when i stop in pizza chef i'm having some seriously good pizza. this time i'm reviewing something else. burgers! pizza chef makes and insane burger. let me get your mouth watering...
on this visit i had a bacon cheeseburger. first they start off with what is easily a 1/3 or half pound sirloin burger which is grilled any way you like. what they do with the bacon is unique. it's crushed / crumbled and put on the top bun of your burger, then covered with cheese and put it in the oven to melt. this seals the bacon under the cheese and you don't loose any of it. the lettuce, tomato and whatever else you request is put under the patty on the bottom bun and all you need to do is add your mustard & ketchup and you're ready to eat. this all comes served on a large platter with either steak fries or onion rings.
you can't miss here. everything on the menu is good. most of the staff has been there for a long time and it's a good local place to patronize. check'em out!

truely unique pizza. this is absolutely one of my favorite pizzeria's ever. i've been a customer of this location since i was a child back in the 70's when my parent's lived in norfolk. over the years i have returned time and time again even though it's extremely out of my way these days. it's that darn good.
pizza chef serves their pie one way and one way only. it's a thin crust cooked on a cookie sheet, and then the slices are cut into squares. sizes are small, medium and large. it's an extraordinary pie.
i love the mozoralla blended cheese they have. it's got a 'tang' to it that gives it a bit of zip. kind of like a feta, only it's not. the toppings are good and you can build your own pie or order one of their specialty pizza's such as a supreme (8 toppings), godfather (an all meat pizza) and there are several others as well.
pizza chef is also not only a pizza palor, it's a full service restaurant. they have steaks (which are very good), seafood, chicken and more. there's also a full service bar on the other side of the kitchen area from the dining room.
the staff is friendly and attentive as well and i highly recommend the restaurant.
the only 'con' here can be the parking. pizza chef is located in a tiny strip shopping center with parking in the front (paved) and the rear of the building (not paved) and when they get busy, it can be tough to find a spot to park. if it's raining, you'll be walking around some puddles. don't let that keep you from going.
