horrible service. if you're looking for good pho and decent service do not come here. there is one old lady working there who is just awful! she is rude and is not very attentive. the food isn't very good either. its alright if you're just looking for convenience of location. but i would recommend driving just a little further to pho tai on 38th and pacific ave. much better pho and service.

took their sweet time. i'm sitting in pho 38th right now. the place is pretty busy so i understand a certain amount of delay. however, once we reached the register the lady there didn't even bother to acknowledge our presence. she stood there for a good ten minutes just flipping through her notepad and typing on her computer.

at first i wasn't bothered. there was a lot of activity and i understand you can fall behind if you don't stay on top of things. but after minute seven of her just staring at her notepad i realized that service was clearly not a priority for this place. this was further confirmed when she finally seemed to notice my girlfriend and i standing there and simply asked "to go?". no hello, no apology for making us stare at her for ten minutes. just a rude question as if we were bothering her.

now i realize this review has been long winded. it might interest people to know we've been here for a half an hour. time enough for me to write this, review it and make certain corrections, debate mentioning the one empty table in the place clearly hadn't been cleaned. (we're talking used napkins still on the table and food smears.) and there's someone who works here sitting rigt beside us just slowly eating her lunch...i notice her table is clean, glad she's fastidious about hygienic practices where she's sitting...just not so much when it comes to patrons....40 min and counting.

i was going to wrap this review up by talking about the quality of food. but since that's nowhere in sight i'll just end with this. there's a pho place every two hundred feet in tacoma. go somewhere else people, they'll treat you better and you won't have to deal with staring at wadded up napkins to have the "privilege" of eating their food.

tl;dr: 2/5 won't come back, you shouldn't either.

happy new year!

not original phad thai from thai culture. the friendly waitress said "this phad thai is from korea."

pho order had almost no broth flavor and was very diluted.

thai tea is very good though.

pho does the body good. i would have to say that i have tried a good amount of pho at many a location. the basic recipe is pretty much the same, rice noodles, thinnly sliced meat, cilantro, onions, broth served with a side of bean sprouts, jalapenos, thai basil and lime. to me the broth is everything, if the base broth is delicous on its own, then all the other elements create a perfect bowl of pho. if the broth is lackluster, no amount of sauces will help. pho 38th is where i go on cold days, when i am feeling under the weather and need a hot bowl of goodness that does the body good.

yum!. this place is great. i had my first ever noodle salad bowl from here and ever since i have been addicted to noodle salads! i love that the portions (whether you come here, or pretty much any other vietnemese restaurant) are huge, i will be going back. :)

is broth instant?. my wife loves this place, but everytime i go i have aheadache after. i like the concept of a quick, inexpensive, pho with flavor and fresh basil, sprouts on top, etc.

will admit to being a bit of a foodie, traveled the world and lived in exotic places enjoying the food the most. however, vietnam i haven't travelled so only pho experience is us.....

so my last experience was most likely my last here as i saw from the kitchen them prepare a bowl....boiling hot water added to the bowl, (good), then from a large box store container that i can only think of as an instant both mix of some kind added to the bowl and mixed (bad) then all these wonderful fresh meats, veggies, etc added (good).
moral of the story start with a good broth!!! then this place would be great for the price.

as is a i have headache for bad pho....

great phở!. 38th is a phở resturaunt that doesn't skimp out on the meat! in my experiences i have always finished all the meat they gave me but here i couldn't finish it all. if your looking for authentic phở flavors, lots of food for your dollar and friendly service check this place out!

i ordered the grilled chicken phở and it was delicious. the vegetables were fresh the meat was well cooked and the best part was the broth had a kick to it! very savory and flavorful with a nice kick of spice to it.

i recommend it!

pho 38. for the price, this is one of the best pho soup places i've been to. they offer a variety of items (try the vietnamese sandwiches) as well as "bubble" teas & ice coffees.
this is a "no-nonse" kind of restaurant. quick, efficient.
i order the pho # 45, which is for the more adventurist-type. i highly recommend this for the tacoma area. (very close to the tacoma mall & i-5)

i love the flavor at this place, great soup, egg rolls and spring rolls. the staff not so helpful. you won't always get the soup that you order because it is all the same price, or maybe they think you won't notice. i don't really mind though, the price i
