peter's gourmade grill

the cheeseburger had a surprising sweetness to it that came from the ketchup and pickles. the patty was nice and thick and had a beautifully beefy flavor to it.

there is always something going on at peter's gourmade. this eatery started in a gas station on mcfadden avenue, not far from their current location. after being written up in oc weekly, and numerous other print media and blogs, their business swelled. they gained a reputation for serving some of the best burgers and sides in the area. then the valero gas station closed, but they remained open filling hungry patrons stomachs. according to the peter's gourmade web site, the new owner of the gas station raised their rent, demanded that they pay all of the utilities on the property, and refused to come to a sensible lease agreement. needless to say, they needed to find another location, and that is what they did. just a few blocks away, in the old masala bowl location. while all of this was going on they opened a location in newport, just steps away from the balboa ferry. this was the establishment that i visited when i first trie

a very wise man, a genius really, back in 1982, penned some of the most significant lyrics in the history of music!!!! and this is not even an exaggeration!!!!!!! not at all!!!!!! this artist, this guru, this musical mastermind i speak of is none other than former doobie brothers front man, once steely dan backup vocalist, and now successful solo artist, michael mcdonald!!!!!!!! what lyrics could i possibly be referring to from michael mcdonald that qualify him to bear the title of greatest lyricist ever?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! uh, how about this line.... what a treat! delicious, affordable food clearly made by a chef. the burgers and gyros are awesome and the fries and plentiful and tasty. we will definitely be back to try more things!!

loves it! i was a little nervous coming here because i'm a vegetarian and i had seen a bad review from someone who had their veggie burger - but i decided to try the place anyways. i am so glad i did! veggie burger was amazing (the patty is extremely thin tho) ... french fries are the best - not greasy and they give u tons! i def plan on coming here again ...

sooo delicious! don't sleep on this place!

fries.. portionly huge.. but so salty....i had to trash most of them..

...the beauty of peter’s gourmade grill: it reminds food snobs like me that good, quality food and talented chefs can be found anywhere, especially at gas stations.

oh those fries. good gyro, not the best i've had but well worth ordering. but for me, the appeal is their fries. they are light, flavorful, just enough oil (is it safflower? it has a distinct light taste to it). they are finished with a very nice seasoning salt that is just this side of too much or just right for fries. they have the addictive quality of mcdonald's fries but not as heavy. as part of a a combo you get a ton of them and if you end your fries first like i do (while still hot) then you might be too full for much of the sandwich. i'll be back.

on my next visit i had a patty melt...a sublime patty melt...a world class patty melt. if only they had more seating....
