pleasantly surprised by the quality of food put out here having been disappointed for most of the visit to hobart.

had dinner here and decided to have a selection of small entrees rather than the classic 3 course meal having conferred with the very pleasant and helpful waiter.

the wagyu tartare was prepared well, had the traditional creamy texture from the yolk but the addition of the peppery crisp gave it that extra dimension.
the highlight of the meal was the salt ling fritters with anchovy emulsion and radicchio had that intrigue of the bitter, creamy, salty and fish taste rolled into one.
the least favourite was the chicken parfait which was creamy and smooth but the toasted brioche bread was too sweet and threw the whole balance of the meal.

overall though a very enjoyable meal and highly recommended to anyone visiting hobart when compared to some of the more highly rated establishments which aren't that great from experience so far

great restaurant with outstanding staff. we arrived early and were place at a table overlooking the restaurant. our waiters were very attentive and happy to answer any questions we had about the menu.
the beef tartare was great and flavoursome. the lamb ribs we beautifully well cooked and falling off the bone. forgot to take photos of our mains as i was having such a good time.
i would highly recommend this place for a nice romantic diner.

great old world atmosphere. not a large but very good quality menu. the next table somehow knew there was an additional vegetarian menu. would have been good to know. excellent choice of tasmanian and other wines. we especially loved the fish of the day and chicken liver pate. recommend for a special night out.

what an amazing place. i am not sure what all the negative reviews about service are all about. staff were fantastic. the moment you walked in the door all the way to the final dish was fabulous. the king fish starter followed by the sirloin steak were just beyond words. the steak was tender and had a lovely smoky flavour. a truly lovely evening and meal in beautiful hobart.

where can i begin with this place???? it was hands down amazinggggg!!!!!! my friends and i came down to visit hobart last weekend and we wanted to try this place on our first night and did a walk in when they just opened, however they were booked out and now i can understand why!

we didn’t want to give up on this place so we attempted to make a booking on our last night in hobart. when we called up whilst sitting in the car parked right outside the restaurant, they said they only had bar stools available and we accepted anyway. upon walking in, they managed to put us on a table at the back of the restaurant.

at first glance, the atmosphere was just gorgeous, the fireplace was beautiful and lighting was dim.

we ordered 4 entrees and the highlights for me were the kingfish ceviche and chicken liver parfait. these dishes was quality made and i wanted more! my main dish was the duck and by now i didn’t think i could have been even more impressed but boy i was wrong. hands down the best duck dish, i have ever ate or will eat, maybe. the dish came with a yoghurt type of sauce on the side with thinly sliced persimmons, which would at first sound odd but it worked perfectly well.

service was tentative and great, waiter checked up on us with every course and asked how it was. i was so happy we did not give up on this place. it was a 10/10 for me and i would fly back to hobart just to eat here again.

i don’t know whether it is tasmania in general or what but the food comes out ssssssoooooo slowwwwwlyyyyyyy. thank goodness i always look at the menu beforehand and quickly order food for kids as soon as i sit down, because my dining companion who ordered their kids meal with theirs waited for more than 40 mins before the kids meal arrived, and had to survive (😶) with more free bread and scabbing my kid’s mains.

i had the kingfish starter which wasn’t very fresh. my friend ordered a chicken and scallops starter and she found it small and not very good either. my kids got tomato salad starter and that wasn’t flavoursome... and i guess because i had a tomato salad as well at templo for lunch and theirs were just out of this world, this seriously pales in comparison. the steak tartare has too much going on, tabasco, pickles, mustard... it was a bit of an overkill. the wallaby was highly recommended by the waitress but that was too dry 😞

my duck was good & the lamb dish i ordered for my kids were amazing. so i would definitely highly recommend going there and just getting the lamb.

wonderful dinner!
starter was the lonzo charcuterie. beautiful cured pork and the sour dough bread was great, large irregular holes, nice thick crust with soft chewy middle. mains -roasted duck on charcoal. medium rare which was just right. full of flavour. three rivers lamb was probably the best i had ever had. great charred flavour not over powering. cooked medium rare again was just right. accomplishment with farro was also great.!
service was very nice. only thing strange to me was when i ordered my beers and ask for it to be in a glass, they would only bring out the beer already poured in the glass. i would have thought they would bring beer and glass out and pour in in front of you.??

we had an event at the hotel last night which was housed in the foyer area and catered by the restaurant. we had some seriously amazing food with the cured ocean trout entree being a standout but the house made goats cheese spread over some sourdough was also spectacular.

for main i had 24 hour braised lamb shoulder, frankly i found it very salty. i enjoyed the accompanying potato and mint. for dessert there were three tarts all with a perfectly crisp and crumbly shell, a delicious lemon one, a tasty chocolate one and an underwhelming cheesecake one. overall a very pleasant evening

good food but far too slow on the service. it’s a pity, because this place has a lot of potential. it was a wednesday night and they weren’t particularly busy. the burrata was amazing and served with pickled beetroot - a good start to the evening! chicken liver parfait was also very solid with delicious brioche. the lamb ribs were also very tasty with some goats cheese on the side. the octopus was a little chewy and the sauce is came with was bland and rather lacklustre. the asparagus were fine but the lardo did nothing to add to the dish. market fish was beautiful. overall we enjoyed the meal but we had to wait far too long between dishes. we were all sharing. bottomless sparkling water is always good too.

visited peacock and jones as part of a weekend away in my home town with the missus, after checking in at the new macq01 and a short stroll across the road we settled in to what turned out to be a great dining experience at p & j
we started with champagne whilst we perused a smallish menu then opted for the calamari for me and nduja for the missus, i said at the time the calamari was the second best i had had and in reflection that still stands true. the calamari (entree size ) was chosen by the missus for main whereas i felt the need for some red meat and ordered the cape grim sirloin (medium rare)again both meals were delicious. we matched our meals with some very nice tassie wines
all in all a very good night out aided by knowledgeable and friendly wait staff and quite reasonable prices, will return
